I have about 2 weeks left to decide if I want to purchase extended warranty for my '08 Nomad. Any thoughts ? Has anyone had major problems ? My bike is in great shape, most people believe it's brand new. I'd be happy to hear from anyone with an opinion. I'd also be interested in the horror stories some of you might have concerning warranty issues with Kawasaki. Finally starting to have some potential riding weather here in Upstate NY. Can't wait to be out.

Buy the extended warranty on eBay from Fremont Motorsports. Kawasaki Extended Warranty (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kawasaki-4-year-extended-warranty-GTPP-all-Motorcycles-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a4f0a7512QQitemZ25043 4188562QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2 479wt_938)

As Ponch said above, if you decide to purchase the extended warranty, be sure to buy it from Fremont on ebay. It's MUCH cheaper than purchasing directly from Kawasaki. I purchased it from them last year right before mine expired. That was the first extended warranty I have ever purchased on any item, vehicle or not. I haven't had to use it yet, but I'm sure you'll get some info here from anyone who has.

My extended warranty paid for itself on the first claim. Two new rear shocks replaced because one leaked oil.

I'm in the same situation you are as my warranty expires April 1. I will have to make a decision pretty darn soon.

Its a gamble, my bike had the extended warranty and it was never used at all. Unless the bike had problems earlier on I wouldn't bother with it myself, but Im pretty handy at fixing a lot of the stuff as well.

One bad shift can cost around $2500.

Have you ever seen a bent or broken shift fork?

The warranty is cheap compared to the cost of the unexpected.

Remember you're not buying a warranty, it's an insurance policy. Personally, I'd never buy them.

It depends. $400 is cheap for 4 years. Ask LW if he had an extended warranty on his Nomad when the bevel drive blew up. I don't know if he did or not. That said, a similar policy for my RT would cost $2K. For that, I'd be better off putting the money in the bank for possible eventual problems.

I personally would buy one if I had the option. You are talking about paying an extra %3 or %4 on your over all cost of the bike to guarantee you against any major failures. Cheap cheap insurance if you ask me.

Look at as $100 a year insurance. That's $8.50 a month.

Buy it on e-bay at Freemont. Piece of mind.

Buy it. 4 years extra peace of mind with unlimited mileage for under $400. I paid $600 for mine when I purchased my bike. I found out about Freemont Powersports here after the fact. At the time, I could have ordered it from Freemont for a little over $300, nearly half of what I paid the dealer. He wanted $700 for it and cried for 15 minutes after I cut his price down $100. The cheapest I found those two factory shocks online was right at $800.
