I have used Prestone Extend Life coolant in both of my Nomads. It is silicate, borate, nitrate free. I mix it with distilled water as noted on the bottle. It needs to be safe for aluminum. Others use Honda Pro cool or ICE which are motorcycle specific.

The premix should be fine providing its suitable for aluminium engines, which most products are nowadays. If you use Prestone or similar a 50-50 mix with distilled water is good.

I use the Honda Pro Cool as I purchased a bottle when my Nomad was new. Have only needed to add one time. Still have some of it remaining. Probably will go with the Prestone when I need more.

I may not know what I'm talking about here but I just had some work done on my bike. I was having a small problem and thought a fuse might be blown. I removed the cover from my 2005 1600 and noted that the antifreeze was low in the container located next to the fuse box. When I mentioned that to my mechanic, he said it was OK...that the container is actually an expansion container. When antifreeze is to be added on the 2005 1600, the opening is located under the gas tank which is to be removed to access the filler location. Might want to check with your Kawa dealer on this.

The expansion tank under our right side cover works just like the one on cars. Generally, we don't remove radiator caps anymore to inspect and maintain coolant levels.
When re-filling totally--like for a complete change, we use the opening under the gas tank. To maintain, remove the right side cover and use the expansion tank. It has marks for "Low" and "High" that are theoretically visible with the side cover on.
The coolant system maintains the volume of coolant it needs to function as the coolant expands or contracts due to engine temp by drawing from or pushing out to the expansion tank.
