Man the sun is out in full force and the snow is almost gone here. Many bikes out already.

I really miss my nomad right now. They are calling for 60 tomorrow.

Paul, sorry to hear that you're suffering from withdrawal symptoms.

I'd tell you how I rode over to Famous Dave's for a chopped pork sandwich at lunch in my shirtsleeves today, but it probably wouldn't do you much good. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif ;)

It might look like ridin weatha' but it ain't. It's sugar season. I still got snow over knee deep, the road into here is soft and muddy in places and rock hard ice in others.

'Bout April will be 'in season' in NH this year, with lots of bugs for our teeth http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

The sapin came on strong yesterday. If this holds it will be a very good year. The first good year in a very long time. Ain't no tellin' yet.

With out a boil yet I am sure I will have sap enough for 2 gallon of the sweet stuff.

If all goes well in the end I hope to make 5 gallons.

we finaily hit 40 here in fargo but also have about three to four feet of snow to melt then we have to get thru the flooding. i want all this snow to just evaporate then get a good rain to wash all the sand and salt off the roads then i can get to riding.

Well I know ya can make beer of maple, and so I guess you can make mash of it, but I don't believe I need any 10 gallons of that stuff, unless I get to bein' a surgon, and i might as things look from heya'. If I do that mash is for me not any patients...

OP, send those 60s north to us! We almost hit 40 today, but it's going to take a while to melt our 3-4 feet of the white stuff.
Sorry to hear you're missing the bike.

I know your pain all to well. I went almost 14 years without riding while the kids are growing up. My son will turn 14 this fall so he should be able to get his license then. I really look forward to riding with him.

Not to rub it in, but I couldn't fight the temptation anymore. Went out for a 5.5 mile ride to fill up with fresh gas and then to auto parts store to get some o-rings for my firetruck. It was only in the mid 40's, but it sure felt good.

We got a few days of warmer weather last week and I got the bike out for the first ride of 2011 (not counting the run to the shop and back). Must have been 200 bikes at one of the local meeting points along the Elbe River in Hamburg. Saw my first Triumph Thunderbird and an odd looking single cylinder bike with a shifter (clutch and gear shift - sort of like a very old handbrake) on the left side of the tank. Interesting to say the least. Whenever you all break out your motors, ride safe.

I didn't read this whole thread so if it hasn't been mentioned, the dealers have Nomads for sale. They are making more everyday. You walk in and sign a contract and ride out. They even give you a book to keep track of your payments. I have had a book since 2007.
When I get this book done in 2012 I will get a new book http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Don't foresee me ever being without a motorcycle.

It is 48 degrees here today and I am looking out my office window and seeing at least 3 feet of snow. The roads are relatively dry so I am taking the new to me Drifter out for a ride in 15 minutes. Tomorrow I will let you know how it went.

We had rain all night up to about noon, then the sun came out and its in the mid 40's. Im hoping that by tomorrow the last of the snow will disappear, unless of coarse we get some fresh stuff.

I put about 70 miles on the new to me Drifter last evening after work.
It was a mixed ride with a little super slab, some 2 lane hiway and a few miles of twisties. It is a very good handling big bike and not at all like the Nomad. The wind buffeting was terrible, but in all fairness tihe wind was about 20-25 mph with stronger gusts. I am going to ride again on Saturday for 5-6 hours and will have a better feel for the bike. All in all, it is a very nice riding bike.

Just 8 more sleeps until I can pick up "The Beast" from storage. It is sunny outside my office as I write this and it is killing me... I keep telling myself it is all for the best as there is still so much salt and sand on the roads; one more week should make a difference http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

The sap is running good here also. My kids used to spend the week hauling the sap buckets up to the fire at Grandmas house, now that they are a little older they don't want to bother anymore. So no more maple syrup every year.

I am a swimmin slave to the stuff this time. One bucxket got to heavy and split the spout eye, falling to the ground, but not tippin over.

I got anout 150 gallons of sap, which I never had to start with before. I got the tools clean and ready for fire in the morning. I probably won't post here again for the next 3 days.

My boil rate is apx 5 gallons an hour. I am so dead. I don't have to the tools to know what the % is. All my haull buckets and containers are pretty sticky though. My haul containers are both about full too. This is silly.... LOL

I saw 2 HD's out today, this morning. It was a great day here fer ridin.. I can't get my bike out yet, as the trailer is buried and the 1/2 mile road is mud 8"+ deep. I am not going to get my Nomad in that kinda mud.

Hey mac what would it cost for you to sell me some of your syrup and ship it out to south dakota? I sure would like to try some of that good home made stuff.

macmac
03-18-2011, 06:03 PM
I can't sell legally, but I can buy some that is and send it. My pan is mild steel, and to sell I believe one must use stainless.. I haven't any made yet anyway.. I am not the type to count chickens before they hatch.

If each 10 gallons I have makes a qt I would have 10 to 15 qts. But thar's no tellin.....

Well there is, but I don't have that tool. It reads % of sugar, but the big boys buy tools like that.

I have enough stuff going on around here at the moment. Im trying to get my bike wired up, speakers installed, and the new Tour Pak mounted.
Boiling sap is good job when you can sit around feeding the fire for 2-3 days and drink a few beers. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
