I have a 2001 1500 Nomad and my last 2 sets of tires have been Michelin Commanders, which have given great mileage. These tires, especially the rear one for some reason are being discontinued and I'm not really wanting to go back to Dunlop 404s or Brigestones, which I never got good mileage with.
Avon doesn't make a Cobra 150-80-16 for the rear of a 1500, but I noticed that they make a Venom in that size for the rear. Does anyone know much about the Avon Venom? I also thought about the Dunlop Elite 3, but can't seem to find a 150-80-16 rear for that either.
Not sure if I want to go CT yet, but was interested for now if anyone had any knowledge or experience with the Venoms.
Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this.

I had the Venoms on my 1500 Classic. I thought they were an excellent tire. A major improvement over the Bridgstones that it came with. They gripped the road really well and improved the ride. When it came time to put tires on my Nomad it was a toss up between the Cobras and the Venoms. I went with the Cobras. They are a really great tire but a little pricey. Dollar for dollar I think the Venoms would be an excellent tire. I will probably go back to them when I need tires again. Just my opinion.

I had a Venom radial as my last rear tire before the present Cobra radials on my 1600 - and the Venom was a very good long lasting tire. I am under the impression that they quit making the Venom except for in ludicrious sizes for customs - but I have been wrong before. If you buy one, check the date code. I have used Kenda Kruz K673 tires on other bikes and have been very pleased with ride, grip and miles. They make a 160/80 16 but not one big enough for the 1600 (170/70 16) - or I would have those on my bike now. The Cobras have been very good and still look great after about 8K miles

Based on recommendations from this site I put on Avon Cobra's last summer. 2500 miles later, no problems.
