View Full Version : Japanese Catastrophe and Motorcycles
I wonder if the catastrophe in Japan will have a profound effect on sales of Japanese bikes in the U.S., and will it cause a shortage in the availability of parts for Japanese bikes.

Frank I would imagine that it will probably have a huge inpact on the motorcycles delivered to the US. Especially since Honda shut down their motorcycle plant in Ohio and converted it to a car manufacturing plant. I figure parts might also be a little harder to get.
That's what I was thinking, Gene. I have to say that I do not know where Kawasaki's or Suzuki's are made, but I'm sure it's going to be hard for them to get any inventory. Bikes or parts.

We have friends who live in Tokyo and are more worried about them than anything else in Japan.

I didn't think Tokyo was hit that hard, but I understand your concern.
But it is understandable to wonder what will happen to the motorcycle industry in Japan for the short term.
There are probably members on here who have friends in Egypt, Iran, Afghanistan and Libya that are worried about them also.

They have warehouses and plants all over the world now, While it may cause some short term problems Im sure they will be up and running at capacity in no time.

The Japanese have always been a resilient people. They will come back from this.
If you are paying attention, your coffee will soon be out of your price range. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif
You are right. The Japanese are very resilient. I did not realize until yesterday that they are the second largest debtor nation. As far as the price of coffee, type in www.endofamerica2011.com, (http://www.endofamerica2011.com,) and watch the video. It's been advertised on Fox for a couple of weeks now. It's going to get ugly quick .

Japan has at least 3 nuclear reactors nearing meltdown right now. I'm sure exporting motorcycles and parts to the USA is the least of their worries.
Oh, I know that the Japanese have a ton on their plate right now. I was just trying to point out how this might affect the motorcycle community here in the U.S.

Yamaha and Honda have already announced the closing of most or all plant operations for a short period due to the rolling blackouts imposed to help the power shortage.
