Yesterday's show was great! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif
The wife & I seen many old friends, some whom we haven't seen in a few yrs. and many rode to the show as temps went up to the mid 50's and some sunshine. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif
There were so many beautifully restored Vintage Bikes it was difficult to pick out the best. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif The two that seemed to garner the most attn. were a Vincent Black Shadow & a beautifully restored early Norton. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif But the two finest restorations went to a Kawasaki & Goldwing. There were about 5 very early Kawasaki's that were restored so well that many commented that they probably looked better than they did when they came from the factory. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif I guess what was most surprising was that many of the bikes that were shown were actually ridden in the day before. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif The turnout for the show amazed everyone as there were hundreds filling the parking lots of all the nearby shopping centers and roadways. :)

This will I'm sure, be hailed as one of the top Vintage Show of the season. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

With some promising weather next week, temps reaching the 60,s a couple day's I guess many will be out riding as last thursday's rain cleaned up just about all the salt and washed away a good bit of the cinders. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Thats sounds like it was a great show to wander through. I was talking to Al and he would like to go to that British bike show near York on the way home from the rally in June.
We had originally thought about going to the Barber Motorsport museum in Birmingham, but Al can't get any more time off work, and we would need an extra couple days to be able to do that.
Id like to try to ride through the Shanondoah Valley on the way there as well if we can swing it.

Steve, our plans as of now are lv early Sun morning run backroads down to somewhere near Winchester Va hop on 81 for a short stretch then pick up the BRP. We'll stay over somewhere in Va Sun nite then back on the BRP Mon. Our intent is to arrive in MV Tues. On the way home it looks like Tenn,WV,Pa.
John may have to be home early so his sched is not final yet. I'll send you some info on another ride I may be doing into Canada later in June.

A friend of mine in 1970, bought a "basket case" Jawa 500. Thought he was going to make a chopper. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Brief History of the Marque: Jawa
Frantisek Janecek began manufacturing Wanderer motorcycles under licence in 1927 in order to diversify the interests of his arms factory. Having bought the tooling for a 500cc model, in 1929 he rebranded the machine with the name JAWA, derived from the first two letters of the words "Janacek" and "Wanderer". It was a shaft-drive model with a pressed steel frame, powered by a 498cc OHV engine.

In 1930 the English designer George-William Patchett joined the new company, resulting in faster, more robust chain-driven machines which although not commercially successful did well in competition. Villiers-licenced deflector two-strokes were incorporated into a lightweight range which proved popular, and in 1934 they also built DKW style flat-top two-strokes.

The 1930s also saw middleweight 350s of SV and OHV configuration, also Patchett designed, and just before war broke out they built the Josef Jozif designed 98cc Robot. Patchett returned to England for the duration to work for Royal Enfield and other arms manufacturers, but Jawa did not remain idle during the Nazi occupation. They secretly developed an advanced single-cylinder twostroke with telescopic front suspension, plunger rear and an automatic clutch. In 1947 they took over the Ogar factory and resumed production, producing the highly successful two-strokes as well as exotic DOHC racers. Subsequently they incorporated the Eso marque and began producing speedway machines.

During the mid 1930s the company also produced a range of cars and utility vehicles

What are you saying Lloyd, I didn't do a good enough job of keeping Sly in line last time? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif As Sylvain mentioned the plan is for Caper to come to Montreal first and the three of us ride down together plus Sly's girlfriend and maybe my wife if she can get free of work. Vulcanguy from Ottawa is hoping to join us for the ride down if he can get time off for good behavior or bad behavior, I'm not sure which.

http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Ha Ha.....Norm you did the best you could under the circumstances ::) after all how much can you expect to reign in a spirited Canadian with a few of them potent northern brews under his belt. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

When were you guy's planning on leaving?
John from Toronto and a few other's are meeting here at my place on Sat and were going to leave from here Sun morning.
If you guy's are coming down 81 it's only a few miles from my house. There are 6 in our group so far and our plan is to arrive in MV on tues.

Plans are loose so far, but We will leave Montreal early Sat and arrive at MV Mon afternoon. 81 is the shortest route for us, but where we join up with it is to be determined. You guys are arriving Tuesday? I guess you will miss the meet and greet Mon evening. Planning on getting there in time for the Tuesday ride?

::) Our plans as of now are to ride the back-roads from Pa through Md and pick up 81 in Va for a short ride to the BRP then ride it to a point (somewhere in Va) where we'll spend the night, then Mon we'll head back up on the Blue Ridge and spend the day riding it until at some point we pull off either to make some time or spend the night. Then early Tues. morn we'll head out for MV and depending where we've spent Mon. we'll arrive at MV sometime Tues. morn. We should have a great time 6 in our group with 6 different bike marquees and all seasoned riders. My thoughts were if you guy's are leaving Sat and traveling south on 81 you may be staying overnight Sat somewhere close to us where we could meet up for diner and on Sun we could ride together for a few miles. Just a thought to ponder as you get your itinerary together. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I remember I could not stop hiccuping, probably something in the local water. ::)
Lloyd as Sylvain says it could be doable, although depending how early a start and how fast you travel on the Sat might put you hours ahead of us by Sat night. Once We have a working itinerary, we will touch base with you and see if we can make a meet up work, it would be fun.

Looking on the map it estimates 523 mi about 9 hrs. to Carlisle
from Montreal. Thats why I figured you guy's would spend Sat nite somewhere in south central Pa. which is my neighborhood.
You guy's may even run into John on the way down if he don't ride the cow path's through Pa. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Then you'll have another 535 mi to MV. If we hook up on Sat nite we could probably ride a few hundred mi together on Sun before we head off into the woods. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif And wholly cow Norm it's starting to look like Sly's going to have to keep an eye on you & the brew. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

;) Donnie is definitely going to have to hold the key's to the tour paks. ::)

OK that is something to look at as we plan Lloyd.
Give Donnie the keys?,that's like asking the wolf to mind the hen house. http://s2.images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif Actually this story went around before, maybe you missed it. I brought down several 10.5% King can beers for the guys to try and no one wanted them, so I drank them. I can attest, 10.5% is not advertising hype, there really is 10.5% alcohol in every can.
