I was getting tired of getting on and off the bike just to punch in the code on the keypad, so I scooted over to Sears and bought a nice little opener button. I synced it to the garage door motor and put a nice little patch of hook and loop material on the back. I had already scouted out the perfect spot....on the inside of the windshield bracketry on the right metal upright.
Before pushing it into place...I double checked and made sure the thing worked....and it did. I pushed it into it's new home, hit the button again and.....NOTHIN'. WTF....??? I tried again with no luck. I pulled it off the Velcro and it worked great. I then moved it around and tried several locations. I found that anytime it was against metal it would not work.....against the plexiglas or plastic it worked fine.
I ended up moving it to the inside center of the windscreen just under the metal cross piece behind the front Vulcan Logo. It's fine there....but now I have this extra piece of hook material on the metal part.... http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>. I guess the metal affects the signal.... :-/.

I have a little key fob that opens the door to the motorcycle garage. I hit the button as I'm getting ready to turn in my driveway and I can cruise right into the garage.

Wish I had that problem to worry about. With a carport I just drive the bike in. Would rather have to open a garage door though.

I have a door opener fastened in my fairing, its one of the first things I added to the bike. I wouldn't be without it.

For garage door opener placement, I used the idea from Gadget's website:
http://www.gadgetjq.com/gdremote.htm
I works just fine, but I have a hard time finding the button with a gloved hand while zooming closer and closer to the garage door! I may place it somewhere more convenient.
Why not use a model that works off the horn button?

My ignition key and garage gate fob are on the same ring and I keep the ring in my MC jacket pocket. When I need to open the gate, I pressed on the fob without even taking out of my pocket. It works for me, no need for anything else because I always ride in my MC jacket, the right pocket is for the key ring and the left for camera....

I know what you mean E..... ....... "no need for anything else because I always ride in my MC jacket, the right pocket is for the key ring" ....... I never ride without my bike and the button is always right there on the left side cover. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
Stay warm up there my friend and tip one for me.

nice photos Ricky - One of these years' I am going to get around to wiring it into the bike, but till now i use elvis's method.... it's in the left brest pocket of my jacket and I can hit it while riding up.
I never ride without the coat so no issue.
But, that's not as sexy as another button on the old girl....

Kris, my guess is that the signal sender is right under your velcro so you are sending it straight into the metal. It's physics or biology or something we didn't pay attention to in school.
Rickyboy...where did you get the button?

Were we suppose to pay attention in school?? Great now I find out! ::)
I got the waterproof button at an electronic store. Not Radio Shack either. You'll probably have to go to a specialty store that deals with this kind of thing. I just happened across one here in Langley.
It really didn't take long to do "blackdog". Once you have the water proof button. I tried what I thought would be a "water proof enough" button ,.... but no not water proof enough. I also heat shrunk the wires. make sure you make the hole for the button a little smaller than the button it's self. Get er done!!

About the only things I paid attention to in High School were (in no particular order)....
1. If I asked _________ out on a date, would I be a hero or a zero....
2. If I run out of weed.....do my buddies have enough to get the job done......
3. Will I need gas for my Mustang and if so, how will I get the $5 I need to fill it up....yes, you read that right.
4. Read number 2 again......
5. If I asked _______'s sister out on a date and she said no, could I still get a date with _______........
6. How soon do I need to be at the field to be dressed for our football game......and where is the party afterwards.......
7. If I used my right hand this morning.....should I use my left hand this afternoon so my right hand will be rested up for tonight......
8. Who is gonna buy me beer later......
9. Will I be missed if I skip 5th period to go get a fake ID......
10. Class....?? Oh yeah.....there was that....... ;) http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

When I leave or get home, I DO have to stick my hand into my pocket, but it works fine from inside my pocket.
The key for the bike always stays in the bike, so it's got nothing else attached to it.

Patricia and I use the "Flash to Pass" system. It was easy (even for me) to install (I sub out my oil changes). The sending unit clips into the hot wire of the high beam. 2 flashes of the high beam and the door opens without taking your paws of the grips.

I have a small fob (similar to what locks and unlocks your car) I have it Velcro'd to the left side engine housing. Black on black and it's hardly noticeable. I do have to reach down to get to it but not that big of deal. It is Velcro'd to the aluminum housing, so cant see how yours does not work on the windshield, maybe it is something to do with the chrome.

Lol
3 days. My wife, whom you met, was one of my room mates girlfriends..... 19 years later still going strong.... just not as long.... :)
I have a belt camera bag, small one for very compact cameras. I have some nylon strapping from one W/S mount bolt to another on the inside, the camera bag has a velcro strap that your belt would go throug. I put my door opener in this bag and have it hanging on the strapping where I can reach it easily. Just squeeze the bag and the control triggers the door.

I was thinking of putting one in the crease, that way I would just have to squeeze my cheeks to open the door.
