Ok I know this is been talked about many many times but I'm still not clear if I have to add a command module if I just want to put on the cold air intake, also I'm seeing different #s on the KN filter set-up. I see the KN set up is about $78.00 or so. Is there any others out there cheaper? If I can do just the cold air intake ( with chuckster's single) does that improve performance or make the bike run cooler.
(2007 FI Nomad). I currently am running all stock except for the Vance and Hines exhaust.
A quote from an older topic
"Before installing this mod, I strongly advise installing a TFI or Cobra fuel processor. Your fuel/air ratio will be extremely lean without it. Aftermarket free flowing exhaust complete the package.
As always, thanks for the help.

You will need to add a fuel computer. I went with a pc3 from motofuel with a preloaded map that works very well. If you go through mr rebates to ebay you can get a little bit better of a deal on the K&N. There is amarked difference in performance. Throttle response is improved, highway roll ons are much stronger, and the bike generally runs much cleaner. It loses all of the snatchiness of a stock bike. It will also run cooler and look much better imho. I love taking off bs parts and you will have a nice pile after installing a single side filter setup.

If you are wanting the most out of this mod you will need the TFI processor. I have had people that run in the cooler climates most of the time go with just the intake kit and pipes.
The single plate and dual plate kits are the same in perfomance other than one is covered (dual plate) by the stock 9" dog bowl.
You can find deals on the TFI units and I will boost for the Dobec TFI as one of the best.

Hey Chuster, the Dobec TFI is it plug n play or do you have to cut into the harness to install it? It doesn't say or show it in the link you posted. Do you have the exact model you have that your recommending?
Thanks
Scott
oh and 1 last thing the dual plate setup you have is there anything in the install that would make it difficult to return the intake back to stock should I ever sell/trade the bike? Someday (I dread it) but like CA some of us may see emissions on bikes http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif and I can see the LAWMAKERS trying to make it RETROACTIVE on older models, they did that with cars (here back to 87) and if that happens many may not pass without factory intake/exhaust parts. Have seen that on modified cars here. Just a thought.
Thanks

You don't have to have a high dollar K&N filter the Spectra filter works just like a K&N and is only about $30.00 with chrome cover but I would recommend the TFI plug & play it is much easier to tune than the pc3 and a lot cheaper and all you need is the single don't worry about what people say about water getting in the filter because it is open it won't hurt any thing I have had mine set up for over 10,000 miles in all kinds of weather with no problems. Here is what it looks like, I have changed to a blue Spectra filter since this picture was taken. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm125/oldbikers/DSCF1856.jpg

Nice setup and thanks for the picture. I just wonder if the link provided earlier in the post for the TFI is a Plug N Play, was yours and is it about the same price. Model? etc. Like the filter on yours. I am thinking of the dual plate as I want to maybe use the dog bowls on both sides still and have a spare and a place to put things? ;)

Mine was not plug & play but I put mine on several years ago I have put several on since that were plug & play and if you are going to do it I find it is best to remove the tank it is not hard like some people seem to think.

OK thanks. I guess if all the new ones are plug n play that would be the best, just not sure if they all are? I'd like to find out for sure as the only one I'd want is that style, no matter which fuel management system I got. I'd wish to know the model number too that some have installed that IS plug n play.
I do want to get it done before riding season this year. I may also later add the hard lowers but weather has to be warmer then it is to paint them so that will not be for a month or 2 yet!!!

Scott,
The one I mentioned isn't a plug-n-play it is the tap in model but its really easy to install and saves a few dollars for other mods later. The model is a FI-1025 and the plug/play model is a FI-2050ST
The dual plate kit comes complete and you can go back to the stock set-up at any time you want. The single plate kit, most people remove the left side completley and cut the cross tube out making it very hard to return it stock.

That's the info I needed. Appreciate it a lot. I'll be in touch, I am going to get the fuel processor first and then the dual plate, but I want to check my cam chain tensioners first. May need them so can get both I think for less shipping costs (If I remember correctly) http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
