I have had several nice bikes over the years - 08 wing, 06 wing, 07 ultra, 04,06, now 07 nomad. I sold each bike to buy another one and now I have the 07 Nomad. I was wanting to go back to either a wing or an ultra so I started looking. I started negotiating with a couple of HD dealers and today I was able to take a test ride on an 09 Ultra that was the color I wanted. Only problem.........I like my Nomad more than the Ultra.

My bike rides and handles better than the Ultra (to me), at least not worth plunking down a bunch of money and going into debt especially when I have a great ride that's paid for.

I know that over time I would have "adjusted" to the Ultra and it would have been fine. I liked my 07 Ultra. I was wanting the fairing for cold weather riding and really wanted to have the music again. Looks now I will be in the market for a fairing with music for my Nomad.

Time to watch ebay for tourpak and get a reckless fairing off ebay for about $250 if you make one bid and wait eventually you will get one plus 50 shipping. There is your Ultra Nomad

Wise decision. Comfort and great ride at an affordable price. Welcome to the Nomad Nation.

Seems like you proved it to yourself which bike you like better, add a fairing, beerbox, and a few other accessories and you will have your dream bike, and a few bucks in your pocket.

Wise decision you made. The Nomad is a great ride. Besides as you said it is paid for and that means a lot.

I need a solution for mounting the fairing. I am most comfortable with my PhattsII risers and I have heard the reckless will not work with that setup. What about a different handlebar that still brings the bars back but mounts on the standard risers? Anyone come up with that kind of solution? I don't want my hands to end up outside the wind protection of the fairing either. Maybe some Heritage handlebars might work, I don't want to go too tall. I love to have a problem to find a solution. Let's see measure what I have now and find the same position but not using risers???

Im sure different handlebars would work, then you could remove the risers, or try a different brand of fairing. I have risers with my Premeux fairing and there is no interference.

The 1600 Nomad has a lot more room to stretch out than the ultra. The floorboards are a lot bigger and I like the shift gear better too. If you are a big person, it makes all the difference. As far s the Gold Wing goes, it's just a completely different ride.

The Premeux is the nicest fairing IMO and it's nice that they can color match.

I think so to in the fact it it addresses almost all of the problems and issues that the guys encounter with the other fairings.
Risers don't interfere, speakers fit easily, it has a nice clean layout for a stereo and gauges, takes standard HD windsheilds, is drilled and tapped for air deflectors, and is very well constructed, and comes painted ready to bolt on. It may cost more but all the details have been looked after.

Hi from the other side of town. Your bike looks great and it is a great ride. I have an 08 and am in the process of putting my reckless fairing on. I'm not sure how much the risers would interfere but I believe someone on here has some risers with the reckless fairing. Perhaps he'll pop on to the thread.

I sent an email to premeux yesterday for pricing with my colors and the stereo installed. I like being able to use the HD wind deflectors and their windshields. Sounds good to me.
Hey Hank, thanks for the compliment on my bike. Good luck with your reckless install. Maybe we can get together some time so I can see the end result.

Steve, what risers are you using with the Premeux fairing.

I don't know who makes the risers I have, as they were on the bike when I bought it. They are a 4x2 riser, and I would guess that they came from CruiserCustomizing back then as the original owner bought quite a few things from there for the bike.

I think if you are at all handy, you could save a few hundred $ by installing your own radio in a Premeux. I have their trunk and it is absolutely top notch. But you do pay dearly for every option.
The quote I got in Oct 09 was $1550 for two-tone color match with pinstripe (2008 red/black). Comes with 10" clear shield, 5" smoked shield, chrome windhield trim. Painted speaker grills with 6 1/2" speaker adapters. Options: $70 radio box. $550 for Blaupunkt stereo.
My trunk was also about $100 for shipping (DHL)

Thanks, great information. I was thinking about providing my own radio. How did the pinstrips look? I have two stripes with one stripe that is gold at one angle and changes to red if you look at it from another angle. I don't expect them to be able to come up with this same stripe but two reds that are close to the same size as original would be nice.

Wow! That is one nice looking dash. The gauges really add to the look.

I have gold pinstripes on my fairing and they match the Kawasaki stripes perfectly. If you decide to order the fairing from them Id suggest you order the radio box, it holds the radio in place and does a great job of protecting the radio from the weather inside the fairing. Then you can choose your own stereo to install.
I like it more since adding the gauges, its nice to be able to monitor the engine and makes the fairing look more finished in my opinion. I wish I would have added them a few seasons ago.

The pinstripes on my trunk are a perfect match to the bike. The Premeux stuff looks like it was done at the factory. Like I said it is top notch stuff.
