View Full Version : No interest in Nomad

Ive placed an add to sell my Nomad and have gotten very little responce.

I know times are tough, but I figured this forum would possibly be the best
place, seeing that Nomad owners know these bikes are dependable and
make a great two up riding experience as well.

At this point, I would consider ANY REASONABLE OFFER...
Heck...If its close enough...I will even deliver it on a trailer.

Ive had to write a check for my property tax bill, from my home equity line

This is a sacrafice sale...Dont really want to see it go on the floor of my
local motorcycle dealer, and have it set for weeks on consignment, with
out it being on the battery tender.

Any help would be appreciated........Thanks

P.S. The photos are seen on my first add placed in the for sale section.

We all already own Nomads.

You might try the Delphi Vulcan Riders forum or the VROC forum.

As stated, you may wish to offer it on this site.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/kawvulcan/?

Someone there maybe interested.

If you have not put it on Kijijji do that as well and or Craigslist in your area.

The other option would be in Auto or Yankee (in US) Trader.

The more exposure you have the better.

Good luck with the sale, looks like a nice bike.

Lets see........... you joined 1/24/11 and have posted 8 times to only to sell your Nomad??

You should have listed it in Craigslist or ebay or the recommended sites instead of Joining KawaNOW (a Nomad owners group) so you could sell your Nomad

At this time of year there still isn't a whole lot of buyers willing to lay out the cash, at least in the snowbelt areas. In March things usually heat up for bike sales and get better as the weather heats up.

I had a friend who has been trying to sell his EG Classic for months at a bargain price tell me that the interest rate on a used bike is astronomical. Good reason why they are difficult to sell unless you are practically giving it away. I hadn't thought of it that way. Makes a lot of sense.

I have had a K100 Rt BMW for sale since last may and only two has called and one came to look for a joy ride with out a motorcycle endorsement on his licenses (NOT HAPPENING)

Winter is a terrible time to sell a bike or a boat. Watch what happens when gas goes up to $4.00 a gallon again. That is if anyone has any cash left to buy a bike! Last time that happened, you couldn't find any scooters for sale in our area. Our local Kaw shop isn't going to order the new Vaquero when they have Voyagers and Nomads on the floor.

OK, here are some excerpts from the guys original post.

I'm just getting back to this site...Havnt had internet connection for quite a while.

I'm going to have my son help me post some photos soon, but in the mean time, it can be viewed on Craigslist.Go into the San Francisco Bay Area region, motorcycles and type in 1999 Nomad...listed in Gilroy.

So, he hasn't had internet for awhile and he did post it on Craigslist. Whats the problem with him trying to sell it here also? ??? ::)

I say post it anywhere that he might have a chance to sell his Nomad. I would definitely list it on eBay, Craigslist, the trader magazines. Take out an ad in your local paper. Good luck with the selling. This is probably the toughest time of year to try and sell a motorcycle. Late March and early April are when people will get interested in motorcycles again.

And I'm not sure what's wrong with putting it on consignment at a dealer... It's a good way to get traffic.

My mechanic at any given time probably has a dozen bikes in his shop on consignment. He seems to move quite a few.

One recent one that had me drooling was a 2006 HD trike with a little over 5K miles on it for $20K. It didn't last too long.

If you want our opinions why you are not getting interest in your bike you open up your self to a lot of comments that probably won't help sell your bike. People will critic your methods and sooner or later you are going to start hearing that "price sells."
If you are not willing to take the "price it right and some one will buy it" approach then,,,,,,
IMHO you have a very small market to play to. People either love or hate the Green Nomads. And because there are many colors more successful than green, that means it is probably not the most desirable color. You have a 12 year old bike and regardless of your bike's miles and condition most people looking at 12 year old bikes are looking for an "el cheapo" buy not one for top dollar like you are asking.

So you are looking for that one special guy (or gal) that loves the Green on Green, is mechanically adept so they are not intimidated by the bikes age and is willing to pay extra cause your bike have seen less use than most 3 year old Nomads. There are not a lot of those folks out there so it might take a while before you find one in your area!

But if you can wait and are willing to do the work, you could find one?

VulcanE

I looked on Craigslist and couldn't find his bike, so I don't know what he's asking for it. I went to Kelly Blue Book and "Retail" selling price in my area for a 1999 Nomad is $4130.

VulcanE
02-02-2011, 10:30 AM
I just went and looked up his other posts and found he's asking $4800 for it, sooooooooo, the price seems inline with the market, considering the extras, and the very good condition of the bike. If I was in need of another Nomad, I would seriously consider it.

cactusjack

Truthfully, there probably aren't many KawaNOW members looking for a 12 year old bike. This is a Nomad-specific group so nearly everyone here owns a Nomad already, with the exception of a handful of Voyager/Vaquero/Classic owners. Anyone who owns a Nomad already has a 1999 or newer.

Now there may be lurkers out there who come on this site looking for a deal on a Nomad, but since they are under the radar, nobody can say for sure.

Your best bet is to post your bike on a general Vulcan forum, where you might have folks with smaller and/or older Vulcans looking for a cost-effective way to move up to a Nomad. That's why I suggested the Delphi forum or VROC.

Good luck with your sale.

VulcanE and cactusjack , Very intelligent and helpful answers.
That is one of the things this site is all about.
My faith is restored, Thank You.
Not saying it isn't fun to bust balls but new guys have to be here awhile first to understand how things work here.

I had the same problem, I traded mine at a Dodge Dealer for a Road King. They have my old bike listed for over $8,700 so hang in there. You can see a video of the Nomad at ButtonDodge.com then go to the used cars it think it was on page 2

How do you like your Road King compared to the Nomad?

(My preference would be for the Road King rather than for the Classic; I like the hard bags better.)

crabbypaddy
02-09-2011, 08:44 PM
I like the RK so far but have only been able to ride about 800 miles the week between Christmas and New Years in Fla. I live in Frozen Indiana so not much time to have a fair reveiw of the King. I am oppiste on the bags. The bags on the classic are hard covered in leather. I like the retro look.
