View Full Version : Going Solo

Spent the evening after Xmas time continuing the clean the gonad. I really like the solo look so I took off the passenger boards and seat. The only snag was that I found the main seat bolt head sheared off. After playing with it a while I was able to unscrew it from under the fender http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
I'm debating on the look; I'd like to find a good looking rear rack but that old yammie rack isn't around any more.
Either way it's a work in progress. Attention to the front end will be my first mods. Stiffer fork springs and some braded lines are mandatory on this hoss.
Merry Christmas http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

"clean the gonad"
Not sure what that means, but a solo rack from a 1986-2003 HD Sportster fits great. They are made by several manufacturers and are easily found.
Here's a pic of one on my '07:

I just clean my gonads when I shower.
I have thought of going the solo route myself since my wife doesn't ride with me.

Thanks for the tip, that's perfect. Does it line up with the factory mounting holes? Is that an factory HD piece?

My wife doesn't ride with me either and I really like the clean old school look. It also take away some parts that have some corrosion on them.

Yes, the holes line up. I had to bend the front mounting tab a little bit to match the angle on the fender, though. I don't think mine is genuine HD, I bought it off eBay from alscycleparts for $32.50.

Getting a new Goldwing for Christmas so taking the Nomad to solo I think. Has anyone found or made a solo seat that is "sprung" like the old solo seats from the 60's & 70's Harley dressers?

Here is my solo look. I can go from this to the two up in about 20 minutes. I normally leave it solo, and when I know the wife is joining me for a weekend ride I just go back to stock.

http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif Really like the look and have been toying with the same idea.
I took the back floor boards off last year after I got caught in them and had a bad fall - broke an ankle while walking my bike in a parking lot.
Since I am now single after 22 years I don't expect to be riding with anyone soon anyway - next one has to have money and her own bike... ;)
My bike is the 2010 any suggestions on where to get the replacement parts for the passenger seat - I don't have the luxury of a place to make major changes so somthing that is a direct fit is much preferred.

Here is my solo set-up. I have sold the fender rack and am now running a fender bib from PH Customs.

Wow, that was a "Time Warp".
I think we should have a Solo section only on this site. Are you in favour of this idea?

Wouldn't bother me but is there enough solo stuff for it's own section? Mine's been solo'ed so I'm in. :)

Thanks. The seat is a Corbin Solo. Did a 640 mile day ride and it is very comfortable. It feels like a brick if you just sit on it but when riding it feels great.

Definitely like the cleaner look of the Nomad solo. They don't look bad configured as a two up, but I prefer the old school one up look. I'm actually thinking about doing away with the racks on the bags just to clean it up a bit more. I've never used them and can always put em back on if needed. Want to do a backrest on it for the longer rides though. You can tell when that bit of support from the back seat is no longer there. Saw a neat deal a few months ago (can't find it now) where a guy took a headrest from a car and modded it to fit his bike as a backrest. It was real clean, looked like it was meant to be there, and appeared to be comfortable. I'm going to make it a project. Even if it doesn't work out, it's just a headrest from the salvage yard and shouldn't be more than $20 or so.

After we got Patricia her new Suzi Boulevard, the back seat was just extra weight. I can actually carry more on my solo racks than I could on the back seat.
