I did this a few years ago on the VTX forms, and several years later, the thread I started has over 1000 post, and over 20 pages of people posting pics of their bikes turned into baggers, touring machines & more !

I thought I would give it a shot here. It a great place to post pics of your bike, with after market fairings, lowers, tour-packs, and so on, so when people like myself are thinking about adding these to their bike, they can go over pics and see what each looks like

I would recommend also stating where you got the aftermarket parts, who made them, etc, to help anyone considering or thinking of adding that part onto their bike.

So show your pics off, lets see those fairings, tour-packs, custom paint jobs, and more out their ! Touring machines show your stuff !

Then Ultra Tour-pak I got from eBay was drilled for the H-D luggage rack and the H-D chrome accent around the lights. I just received the chrome trim kit and a pair of speaker pods today so this winter's trunk project is coming long well. I just need my luggage rack, lock and my antennas which are all en route and I was lucky enough to pick up a very nice H-D tour-pak backrest from Wisconsin Cyacle Salvage for $70. It will be nice to hook up the FM antenna to my stereo so I can get some decent reception and a handlebar mount CB is also in the plan. Next week the trunk as well as the fairing shell will be off to the painters to match up with my bike's stock paint. I'll have to shoot some before and after pictures. Wompus racks are on sale for $200 shipped until the end of January - lucked out again with that purchase.

That is a Premeux fairing, when I first got it it just had the stereo in it, but still looked kind of plain and empty. I added the gauges earlier this summer and it really adds to the look of the fairing.
I still have one more small hole to drill for my handlebar heater switch but am having trouble deciding on where to do it so it looks like it belongs rather than an afterthought.

Here is my 02 this was taken last summer after I added the trunk and fairing. Quadzilla type and Reckless but it was an HD and had to modify the brackets for the Nomad. I only have to remove 4 of the windshield bracket bolt locations (original) and disconnect the power and the entire batwing can be removed in about 5 minutes. Trunk not as easy. I did make the mount for the trunk from a one piece of 6061 1/8 inch aluminum bent into shape which makes it very strong. ;)

Hope the pics come out. Host of small modifications done too numerous to mention or remember now.. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

ve3hzz {Scott ??? } Nice bike!! I like the way you did the paint on the fairing. I suggested that to my paint guy but he did it the way it is. He also said he'd put a double pinstripe on but didn't. I wasn't real happy, and maybe I should have had him redo the whole thing, but he was fast, cheap, {$300. for the two tone and single stripe, on the tank and fairing} Plus the repair shop fixing/holding the bike wanted to reassemble the bike and get the job finished. I'm happy.
But I really like the way yours is done.
What make of trunk is that? Looks to be from an older Voyager, .....maybe a Yamaha Venture.?
Anyway it looks good.

ve3hzz
01-10-2011, 11:16 AM
Thanks Rick, appreciate the comments. The fairing didn't turn out EXACTLY as I'd like it as the clearcoat ran (to humid when I painted it) and so I MAY infact redo it, but I think it will wait till next winter. I didn't use my NEW HVLP paint gun so my bad!!! I liked the distinction of the 2 tone in that way from the standard, as it was different thanks for noticing.
As for the tour pak...well it's a DMY type. I made up the 2 brake lites (LED) from a rubber mounted hole type and the chrome "hats" which is how they are attached to the trunk. I put on chrome door edge and 3/4 inch wide body side moulding along the bottom. I also made the 1 piece of aluminum frame it sits on from 6061 bent into shape. The fairing is like the Reckless one, but it's on line and for an HD hence had to modify the brackets to make it work on my stock windshield mounts. I can have it off in about 5 minutes which is better for any work needed. Still a work in progress, yes after 8+ years still not done with it..LOL...many more things to do.

Again thanks for the comments.

Regards

Scott

See my signature line photos of my '08 with a Wide Open Custom fairing and an older Bates trunk that I refurbished and mounted in a solo setup.

Here's a picture of the back of the fairing with the Jensen marine stereo and 4 speaker set up that WOC offers. In place of the little storage bin I added a small panel that I fabbed from aluminum plate and installed a power outlet, a Dakota Digital tach and a couple of lighted switches and a push button for my garage door opener. RAM mount for my Garmin GPS on the left handlebar.

One reason I mounted my GPS (Garmin 760) in the middle facing me was that it is the easiest to see in bright lighting and when playing MP3's via it can see and make adjustments on the fly. I have a power plug in on the right side. I'm looking at where can put a gauge or 2? but for the most part I like the fact I can have it OFF in about 5 minutes now.

what mount did you both use? The one for the handle bars?
Mine is a RAM mount bracket for the Nuvi line. Then I made my own aluminum bracket as you see in the picture and bolted it to the fairing. I did put a piece of rubber (scrap from a door threshold weather stripping) to take up any vibrations, but minimal. That's the greyish colour in the picture at the back of the mount.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z244/ve3hzz/DSCN0544-1.jpg
The mount I put up and checked for angle and then bent the bracket so it was facing me directly as I was sitting like I would be riding. This wasn't hard, just an extra step to make it view with minimal glare. If I did get some glare I can still add a HAT on to it easy enough. The Ram mount (I can't remember the stock number) was like 12.00 or so. I could have purchased the round ball mount for handlebar, but didn't need it nor see a need. Other location would be where I mounted my stereo remote, but not line of sight like mine is now...so less DISTRACTION.

If you look at Reply #37 on Jan 9, 2011, 11:15am you will see the picture of the GPS straight ahead showing how it's in my line of sight area for easy viewing. I like this better as I can glance at it easily.
I can still unclip the GPS easily enough and take it with me or put it in my saddle/trunk. Most of the guys I ride with say to leave it no one will touch it, but I'm not that brave http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif But I guess to most it looks pretty secure so not easy to walk off with it??? Even over the bumpiest roads (and a few wooden bridges http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif ) it is very stable.
Only think I need to do now is get another power cable for the quick connnect at the rear and I'm set. Winter project. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Thanks , Scott.
Yes, I found it difficult to read the GPS in bright sunlight but stole an idea from Hammer who has the same Garmin 255W GPS and RAM mount that I have. Picked up a black plastic 3 X 5 card file box at Staples, cut the lid off and pretty much cut it in half diagonally, trimmed to fit and mounted to the back of the RAM mount. it looks pretty respectable and now the GPS is legible in most situations unless the sun is really low and directly to my back.

Thanks Hammer for the idea. Better get a copyright on it!

Thanks Hammer for the idea. Better get a copyright on it!

Your more than welcome. Interesting idea about that file box. Do you have a picture of it? I've been thinking of doing that for mine for those situations (not often) but would help. I could mount it with velcro so it comes off easy enough when not needed or when I have to do something with my mount etc.

I use a Garmin Nuvi, which is not waterproof rated. I have it behind the fairing and even in most rain that Ive ridden in the unit stays dry behind the windshield. In a hard rain guys put a zip loc bag over them and that works. I will just remove it and put it in my pocket. However Ive found it takes riding in a pretty good downpour before I have to remove it temporarily.

Wiz, let me know if you want some info. on mounting your J&M CB. I was able to find an adapter so you can mount a good bottom mount adjustable CB antenna on the trunk, otherwise good luck trying to get a good signal adjustment with a standard HD antenna.

I bought tuned J&M shorty (about 22") antennas for the standard H-D mounts already on the trunk. I should have my couple little parts I need tomorrow from Bike Bandit and the trunk and the fairing shell will be hauled out to the custom paint shop next week. I am looking forward to joining the Ultra Nomad brigade. :-)

I have the 760 and if I ever need it, can put a plastic sandwich bag (zip lock bag) over it and it will keep it dry. Also unless your in a driving rain, it's not going to touch the REAR of the fairing if your riding. When you stop yes could get wet, but with a baggie over it, that will keep it clean/dry.

I finally got the hinge pins, lid tether, and the one hasp from BikeBandit.com, now I will take this 2010 Ultra trunk and my fairing shell to get painted to match my '07 black/titanium Nomad on Monday. Here's the tour-pak stuff before:
http://files.unifiedtrust.com/tourpak01.jpg The speaker pods are from June's Upholstery on eBay with 6.5" Pioneer 2-way speakers. J&M shorty pre tunes antennas for H-D Ultra tour pak, Harley premium luggage rack (holes already drilled for it), backrest from Wisconsin Cycle Salvage, H-D chrome taillight trim (because the holes were already drilled for it too) and a wompus rack. So far about $1120 into the project before paint. Oh well, it will be sharp. Merry Xmas to me and my Mrs.!

Im sure it will look great when your done. Just a tip; when your mounting the Tour pak on the Wompus rack fit it with the speaker pods mounted. The pods take up a fair amount of room on a Nomad and will decrease the passenger seating area, especially for getting on and off the bike. Most likely you will mount the box a little further back on the rack. Harleys seem to have a lot more passenger room than the Nomads.

Hey "wiz" Steve's correct about the room and with his suggestion to maybe mount it a couple/few inches back..... that's how mine is set up.... and don't think about the money... you're going to love having the "tour pak". I know I have no regrets going from the older Venture trunk {although I think it looked good} to the H.D. King tour pak.
Looking at yours, it looks to be the two tone H.D. pearl black/gray and the "diablo black". Does yours have the light package in the rear?? Mine came with a single colour "pearl black/gray. One day I'd like to get it done in a two tone to match the rest of the bike better. But it'll be fine the way it is for now. At least that's what "judygirl" says. ;)
anyway, congrats on the tour pack. It's going to look great.

http://files.unifiedtrust.com/tourpak02.jpg
I'll need to run the FM antenna cable from the fairing, the wires from the stereo to the rear speakers and wire in the taillights - and I'll be sure to get the passenger seat spacing correct before I drill through the wompus rack, my wife doesn't take up very much space. At this point I'm no longer worried about the money - I'll keep the bike and ride it enough to get the $$$-worth out of it.

Unless they have changed recently the Ultra Classics were the only bikes that came with the tailights in them, and now the new Road Glide Ultra as well. The side marker lights were available on Electra Glides as an extra. I don't have any lights on my box. You could buy them and cut them in but that would cost a fair bit from the prices Ive seen them selling for.
Also my box just has a rubber mat in the bottom, whereas the Ultras have a full molded carpet liner.

There are no lights, as in turn lights or running lights on the rear. I have the LED kit that fits the sides. It also has the full liner in the bottom. Other than the wiring it should be able to be unbolted pretty quick.

Ultra Classic, Which is HD full touring bike, which has lowers, CB radio, etc. Like Ringadingh said, if it doersnt have the light kit, then it probabley came off their Eletra Glide. The light kit was only on their Ultra Classic, unless the person paid extra on the Eletra Glide to have them added

I also know you can buy the light kit on the rear off Ebay, which is what a friend of mine did with his HD tour pack

HD also made smaller half trunks, with no lights

Wiz, I forget to mention earlier that you should use a plug so its easy to remove the Tour Pak without cutting any wires.

I hadn't thought of that, but it seems like the way to go. The taillights are already hooked up to a plug so I'll go get the H-D part for the other side of that plug and wire the lights to that - and do my own plug for the speakers.

I noticed there were not enough green machines being displayed here so I thought I better add my two cents. Since purchasing this beautiful green "99" Nomad several years ago, have added the Mutazu trunk, Reckless fairing and JTD Cycle Parts Hard Lowers. OK that was a plug for the lowers because I make them and like them very much. I have added some extra LED lighting both under tank and tricked out flashers and Brake flasher to get peoples attention when night riding. I have no radio due to the helmet to helmet com and I pipe in IPod through them for music. Besides I like the handy man bag on the windshield for quick storage. Built my own trailer hitch and trailer to tow. I love my bagger...

I'm still considering your lowers but after hearing about using them in the heat of summer..... that's when I ride, ....and needing to remove them,.... I'm undecided on getting them. Probably no different though than having the crash bar chaps on in the heat.
Do they come black or do they need paint? Something that small probably wouldn't be hard to do with "rattle cans". I also have a friend that would probably paint them for me.

I feel compelled to chime in about John's hard lowers and hot weather. As long as you open the nice big vents, the summer heat is not a problem - even on long days with temps pushing 100°. Add to that the rain and other stuff protection and the added warmth with the venys closed on cooler days (and the very good price, quality and service) and I am very pleased with my purchase. I am looking forward to getting my trunk, fairing and gas tank back from the painters so I can reassemble my bike and get some pictures posted here.

John, love the bike I always liked the green meanie's and your paint scheme on the trunk and fairing is very nice. I struggled with that and the DMY trunk, but am happy with my decision. One question on your lowers, the glove box on either side (original size) with the latch to close them, would it be possible to replace them with locks? Cylinder type like found in most car trunks or tool boxes ( if that makes sense?).
I like the larger ones, but no way to secure it (incase I wanted to put my radio face plate in there etc. This would give a little more security and flexibility for storage solutions. I have a stereo in mine, and miss my large bag like you have on yours. I did see a few 3 pocket bags but not sure they will fit behind my GPS?
Anyway love the look and like the lowers you've made. Just trying to decide if want to do that THIS year or?? Haven't modded on it since last winter/spring http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Your setup looks good, maybe too shiny black for me if the sun reflects off it? They/you did a nice job none the less. I wonder about the mirrors however and how effective they will be to see properly. You will have to let us know once your riding it how they do for seeing behind and into the next lane/bike to your rear on either LEFT or RIGHT of you?
I think with the angle that the master cylinder for each will take part of the view away or reduce the angle? Have to wait and see how you like them.

Good luck with the rest of the installation and for sure keep us posted on progress.

Yeh, It took 2 hours between measuring them, making sure they don't stick out on the sides, or top, past the fairing. It took longer to get them mounted, then it did to mount the fairing and speakers

My friend had the premeux fairing, and did the same thing. After he sold the bike, the new buyer had put mirrors back on the bars, in the stock location, and kept the mirrors on the fairing

After hours of research on this, I ordered the HD mirrors with the blind spots in them, just for this reason. I knew the masters would be kinda in the way, but didn't know how much

I've had a VTX Retro, that I installed a fairing on also, that had painted inner/outer fairings, and it didn't bother me, so I went with it this time as well

I have to say, the Reckless fairing took little prep to paint, and came out beautiful

The fit is perfect, and I love the fairing

On my VTX, I had a Wide Open, 1 pc, and they charged me $300.00 just to prep it for paint, it was so rough, and the seam from the factory where the two halves were joined was terrible.

This fairing, I paid $100.00 bucks to paint with two coats of black, and two coats of clear, and it came out like a mirror. That was including the prep work :)

I like the look of the mirrors, just not sure how well they will work? Guess you can always ADD the bar mounted ones later if you wish.
I thought of painting my inner fairing just BLACK, but decided to go with SATIN black so no shiny surfaces to reflect any glare off. I also saw factory fairings on HD's and most had satin finish inner so I went that way. For it I used Duplicolor rattle can paint and did 2 coats. I didn't clear coat it. I can always touch it up easy enough and it's pretty tough stuff.
The outer, trunk and side covers I think the paint, hardner, reducer etc was in about 100.00 that was for 2 colours and clear. I will redo the fairing upper portion maybe or the whole thing next winter I think? It's OK~ http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif
But that is still a decent price even if you supplied the parts. I know that the fairing you have is well finished on arrival and that prep work would be low, still a good price. Looks good.
Hope it all goes together painlessly for you, but I'm sure it will you started with a good product from all the responses.

Yes, It helps when you can paint everything yourself. Your lucky to have that skill

We painted my friends truck ( $1,200.00 ) Truck, that had a bunch of body work etc, and painted it in the driveway on a windy day. Blacks kinda hard to shoot, so it didn't come out perfect, but for the cost of materials, it was worth it.

After that experience, I decided I wanted the fairing painted professionally. All though, I was 50-50 on painting it myself. The last faring I had painted, I took it back from a painter, that had it 3 weeks, and waited another 2 weeks for the new painter to shoot it, and they charged me $650.00 with the prep work on a W/O fairing

This painter, in his down time, does stuff like this in cash, and only had it less then a week, and did a beautiful job

I'll post more pics in the next few days when I have her outside in the daylight :)

I used Color-Rite paint which is a bit expensive but still think I did all that I for about $700.00 . I kinda believe if I can do a 90-95% job I can live with that. The 5-10% not as good I can cover by boast I did it myself. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Besides whats the worst could happen, I totally screw it up? Done that before too! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

xncrman, how do you like you tourpak? I refer to the back storage trunk. Is it ABS or Fiberglass. I have a ABS and it is very flimsy. I was looking at the site where you got yours and it looks like ABS too. Your thoughts on it?

xncrman
01-19-2011, 05:29 PM
I've ridden with it for 2 years now and it has held up to constant use. True it is not the strongest and it is made from ABS. Like much Chinese cycle products there ok on looks, could be stronger and slightly bigger. But for the money I couldn't go wrong. I bought it for looks and price. I thought the rounded look went better with the nomad than square HD. I actually bought both of their trunks, the square one went on the back of my 1979 Honda CB750K with a Vetter fairing on it.

Actually, it's on the LIST for this year... just have to see what kind of $$$ I'll get back at tax time.... looking at new from Premeux, a bit expensive but I have no plans to change my ride in the near furure and I have to say, nice!!! That said, a used box, fix-up, paint, bracket & Chrome not to say I would have to have everything done by someone, the price would come pretty close if not the same. Above all, Serge is local (about 60 miles away) and that's just damn cool.

Looks great "fltekdiver"!!!..... save me the trouble of looking back would you?.....is that a "reckless"? The mirrors seem bigger than H.D.'s side mirrors too. I think they might work for me if they'd fit the HD fairing I have. I stayed with the stock Nomad mirrors because with the risers for the handle bars, the bars would get in the way of the view through the mirrors.
Those are some BIG freak'in speakers you have there. Which ones are they??
I see a "tour pak"/trunk in your future BTW.

Thanks !! No trunk in the future, If my wife didnt ride on the bike, Id go with a solo seat and remove the backrest

The speakers are 6-1/2" Speakers, by Infinity. The fairing is by Reckless, and hands down, they really make a nice fairing. There was little to none prep work done before painting

The Mirrors are from Bikers Choice, a knock off of HD Street Glides mirrors, but I needed them larger then HD's because of the crap on teh handle bars , so the bottom of the mirror about 10% is covered by the stuff on the bars, but they work great!

Of course Chucksters light kit, which is superb, and now the little details are left, like removing the stickers, hard lowers for the bike, and a few other things I need to wrap it up, Kuryackyn grips etc

Yeh I hear ya, the last painter that painted my VTX fairing, had it 2+ weeks, and never even touched it, then I had to take it to another painter, who had it 2+ weeks, and charged me $600 between the prep work and paint

This time around, the Reckless need no, or little prep work, and when the painted told me around two weeks, I told him to give it back to me, I'll shoot it myself, LOL

He then said a week at the latest, and gave it back to me 4 days later :)

How long did they tell you to wait before putting a wax coat on? If you give it a month (before you install it) you maybe able to wax it OFF the bike like where it is now and maybe easier?? You could remove those items now and wax it first, then put them back together. That way in the cracks etc it has wax to cover it and seal up the paint in those areas! As for the edge of the lid, you COULD use chrome door edging like I did on my trunk, but again just a suggestion. I did it for 2 reasons. 1 it looks good http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif and 2. it makes it look DIFFERENT than the other trunks like it. That is also why I put the 3/4 inch chrome trim on mine too and the lights.

What ever you do I'm sure it will look good.

Hey Tom, ...it looks great from where I'm sitting. Your Nomad script caught my eye. Did you get that on eBay? I saw one exactly like that there but he wanted a couple/few hundred dollars for it. Can you believe it? I got something similar for my old Venture trunk way back when. Then when I sold the trunk, the guy who bought it said he didn't want the script on his Yamaha. {no doubt} I think I paid $5.00.

Who makes those helmet hangers and where did you get them?

Kuryakyn makes them (or did). I went to their site to get a link to them, and it says "sorry, no results found". I did find them on other sites, they have them with or without a little lock, and also to replace the pivot pin in the clutch and brake levers. Here's a link to them though...... The ones I have are Kuryakyn part # 4212. Do a google search for kuryakyn 4212 and you might find better prices.

Vulcan,
Do you have risers on your bars? I have four inch ones and wonder if the bars might get in the way of the mirrors. I was going to add the Harley mirrors on the inside fairing but was leery of the bars getting in the way and limiting my view.

I just realized that those mirrors like yours probably wouldn't work for me. My windscreen was cut to be a little wider and I think the mirrors would hit the it. Damn! Looks like I'm stuck with the stock mirrors. :-/ Hey you wouldn't have a side view of those mirrors on your bike would you? You can see in my photo that my windscreen is wider. We both have the Harley fairing style so you'd know if the mirrors would fit/hit. Maybe they'll clear the windscreen. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

Ricky. I don't have risers, but I do have the handlebars for the Voyager. They moved the grips back to me about 3". My fairing is the Premeux, but my windshield (in this photo) is a genuine HD windshield. I don't have any side shots, but I just went out and looked (with a tape measure), and if your windshield is 2" wider on each side, and continues the same arc, it will still clear the mirrors. Don't know if I answered your questions, but let me know.

I bought one off ebay 325 wompus rack 200 latches and hinges 100 paintjob to match 225 some extra chrome 45 and new lock 30 the tourpak I bought had backrest and luggage rack with it. Makes me about 930 in it . with the mount.

I mounted a Scootworks Super Trunk on my last bike , as seen here:
http://www.shopscootworks.com/productlist.htm?browse=-18724&shopBy=-3113&catalogId=-799

They sell for around $479 plus the wompuss rack, and backrest, your into it for $1K or more, before paint

I've found on the metric bikes, you have to mount the tour pack way back , so the passenger can get in and out, and also so their not sitting foward or being pushed forward by the trunk while riding

Not sure on this bike

here is a link I plan on using telling how to mount the tourpak in the right area Wompus Racks makes the rack for Scootworks racks and he is cheaper in price same rack.
The HD tourpaks can be bought for between 275 and 600 with the back rest and luggage racks if you watch what you do and if get lucky and look long enough you might find one your color

Yes, they are junk. Ive had their trunks on my last bike, and its a pc of junk. Their saddle bags are " OK " to say the least. The rattle allot, and and very thin fiberglass, as the trunk

I went to Tsukayu Hard bags, and trunk. Quality made, really nice products, a bit pricey, but no comparison to the Mutuzu

That's the one I have, the DMY brand on mine. I got it last spring and painted it and installed the lights you see. I may put a chrome top rack on it? It is ABS and is thin, but seems OK. I know it's not as sturdy as the TourPak trunks, but since I wasn't even sure I wanted one nor of it's use or look on the bike, I decided to get it and see. If I liked it then maybe later on I may upgrade to another trunk? But it doesn't seem that bad and it doesn't rattle like some others complain about? I wasn't under any delusions that it would be a GREAT trunk, but it fit the budget at that time and will come in handy this year, so take it for what it is...

I've seen trunks made by these people and wouldn't buy one. Scott/CJ had a trunk by these guys and has said they weren't the best quality but it did the trick for him till he got what he has now.
If you're interested, I posted a trunk that's for sale on craigslist here in Vancouver. But it's $700.
It's one of those leather trunks.

That is a good one Tom pointed out there for you Sly. Even at full price.
The rack is probably worth $200. to buy. But it'll probably cost you a couple hundered for paint. then a scoot rack or something like that. Wompus maybe?

Thanks for the link. If I had the extra funds for my MODs this year I'd think about it for sure. Especially with the addition of rear speakers. Not hard to remove/hide the HD label either. Maybe next winter I'll find one and get it ready for paint etc. But it is a nice deal if the $ stays low....

I think I mentioned it once before, but I found a sight on the net somewhere that was from the maker of motorcycle trunks. It had a price breakdown on quantity buys. I think it was around $20.00 if you bought ten trunks, and it dropped to around $8.00 if you bought a hundred pieces. They where either the Matzuko or Tysuako or something like that name.

I have had my trunk for over a year and no complaints. It is not expense but if mounted solid it is very sturdy. I used a flat mounting plate that came with it and then a steel plate inside. Very solid and no rattles.

Just looked over the web site, the new trunk (HD style) looks cool but the open style 6X9 speakers I can do without. Looks too big/large and w/the wife sitting there.... I won't go there lol 6-1/2" would be better

On the Nomad, the passenger has a hard time getting out of the rear seat with the speaker pods on the back of the tour packs

I read it somwhere, not sure, never had a tour pack on this bike

If somone made a quick disconnect like HD does, Id buy one in a minute. But I dont want it there all the time

nomadtom69
02-13-2011, 07:13 PM
Put you a connector for the lights (if it has any) and it just take saddle bags off and-- 4 bolts-- 2 nuts off shock mount remove toupak and wompus rack in one piece then 2 nuts back on shocks 4 bolts to replace your old backrest and quick bolts in saddle bags one of the members on here showed a hanger in his garage That he hung his on when he took it off.

fltekdiver
02-13-2011, 07:24 PM
I would loose the back rest completey.

Id like the look with the solo seat, no rear seat, no backrest when Im riding by myself

When my wife rides, it would be great to have a tour pack to bolt on/off

So what your saying is, just unbolt the saddlebags, onbolt the wompuss rack, put the bags back on, when I want to ride solo, and when my wife wants to ride, bolt the wompuss rack back on, with the tour pack all ready bolted to the wompuss rack, and be done

nomadtom69
02-13-2011, 07:30 PM

No bids on it either from what I saw? Maybe there was a problem with shipping. I didn't check feedback? maybe the shipping charges were a bit too high? If I had the coin, I'd buy it for mine, but I'm happy with the one I have right now for a while yet. Of course, if $ was not an issue I'd have that style on there now, or would have bought a fully decked out HD with all the bling bling. But then I wake up and come back to reality!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I suggest fastaire.com for replacement windshields. They are in Reno and their prices and service can't be beat. I'm around 6'1" and find that an 8" windshield works well for me. I don't ride two-up, so I can't say if that would work with a passenger.

See here for the radio:

http://www.vulcanbagger.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=20310&start=45#333275

And here for the windshield heights:

http://www.vulcanbagger.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=20855&start=0

I use " Clear-view " windshield with the re-curve. The re-curve trows the air over the windshield another 1-1/2" to 2", so you can use a 8" windshield, where other makes you would have to use a 10"

For riding solo and around town, I bought Clear-views 6-1/2" Dark grey with re-curve. It was $78.00

For riding 2-up, and long distance, I bought the 12" with re-curve

my wife LOVES the taller windshield, she doesn't feel like her heads in a pop corn machine

Here's link to their site:

http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=11

If you go to inventory, and get a blemish, you cant even see their bl-ems, there so minor, and there's more savings

FYI , the Reckless windshield takes Harley Davidson
Electra Glide / Street Glide / Ultra Classic 1996 to Present

Congradulations, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it, they are very well made and the fit and finish is extremely good. I remember when Serge had the first MODEL bike at the Toronto show in 03 I was impressed with them. I personally just couldn't justify (or afford) one. There isn't that much space. The angle of the outer fairing wouldn't allow it to be very deep. Maybe a couple inches deep at best.

Ive spoken with Serge on the phone before and he seemed like a pretty good guy, he sure does make some quality stuff. When I was getting my fairing painted a few years ago, the painter was amazed at the fibreglass craftsmanship, he said its been many years since he'd seen work like that.

Mine is the same as the Hoppe Quadzilla fairing, but I bought mine all separately. I have, including paint approx. 500 into mine. But I did paint it myself in the 2 tone factory colours, but the paint wasn't cheap, I think including clear/reducer about 75~ Brackets were modified from the ones that came with the fairing. Stereo purchased a year prior for my car, about 75.00, Marine radio cover 15.00
Fairing about 250 shipped.
So yes in around 500.00 trunk came in (painted at the same time) for about 75.00 + LED lights. total in it was 125.00 all in.

So combined I have less than 700 into the fairing and trunk. If I had to have it painted by a professional add about 300 to that and still in around 1G which is still reasonable. So it can be done inexpensively and still turn out decent (IMO)

Just curious, what do you mean it doesn't recognize your Zune? You can't play your Zune through the aux input?

Weekend project !! http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif This can't mean a start to finish project. If it is..........Man you must be good. Or you're being facetious here and having some at our expense. I know it would take me at least a week or two or more likely longer. Have fun with it!! and don't forget those pictures showing your progress and finished job.
