Nomad Windshield

I haven't ever persued cutting my windshield down, but I know a few other people on this forum that are interested in doing just that. Whatever answers you come up with, I'm sure they'll be interested in seeing.

I personally like my windshield where it is, but that's just me. Now, if I could just figure out where to mount the wiper motor...

Just cut mine down 2". Followed the instructions on motorcyclecruiser.
1. Use wide masking tape if possible, it tears less. Both sides of screen!
2. Use pencil for intital marks then when sure use a (narrow) marker to make it stand out!
3. I used the string and pencil method and the badge on the screen (it is centred) to rough out the curves itinially.
4. Jigsaw very gently as close to line as possible, less work finishing! When you are getting close to the end, have someone hold on to the piece you have already cut for you!
5. It is easier to do it with the the screen off the bike.
Worked out great, can now see over screen (I am short-ass).

Humm. got to look into the idea of cutting down. Can't do it myself cause I am absolutely not a gear head or mechanical in any fashion...but maybe I can locate someone who can get the job done. I've met quite a few folks along my riding trails.

hey jd, thanks for the site for women link. I've been engaged in some very interesting conversations with other women riders "who ride their own." Not many know about the mechanical stuff, so I'll have to keep stopping by Kawanow, but the convo is great. No disrespect to you fellows of course.

I brought mine to a fiberglass place near me in CA... had windshield cut down to 16".. they did a great job... looks new and I can look right over it without seeing the top of it.... still gives plenty protection.. Nico

Heheheheh...don't sweat it, Dip. There's still a lot of us guys out there that don't realize just how many women that ride have also earned thier Wrench Wench rating--some of 'em the hard way! There's a lady on the Yahoo! VN750 group and the VN750.com forum that has as many 750s (3) as I do; a '93 she's been riding, a '95 she's got completely apart and is restoring, and a '02 or '03 she just bought from another member that needs a stator change. She's having a blast; matter of fact, IIRC, she lives in Maryland somewhere.

Several of the Vulcan Vixens on the 750 group do thier own wrenching, some of 'em with help from husbands/friends, some of 'em totally on thier own.

I taped my windscreen up on both sides. Using a piece of wire (doesn't stretch) and sharpie I made a radius 1.25" lower centered on the headlight. Then I took a sabre saw with a fine blade and cut it. Next using a file I smoothed it, then used sandpaper to finish. Worked great and I don't feel much buffeting.

Doc I thought one of our own madders had recommended that site but can't find it. I wanted to thanks them for the info. FYI: When I spoke to Clearview they told me they make and exact duplicate of the oem shield for cheap money. You can use rainx on their sheilds too. All sheilds are made in Colorado. No "toy" recalls here.

I also purchased one from Clearview. They told me up front that it would be minimum 7 to 8 weeks to shipping. I ordered it the end of July. Called last week and was told it would ship this week. They are way behind, but from what I read they make a quality shield.

Clearview does make them for 05 and up 1600 Nomads. Its on their website.

Good to know. When I first checked them 05-06 they didn't make them yet.
