Planning on going for a little ride this morning, checked the air in my tires and it looks as though I am going to need to replace the car tire in the next couple of months. I have 21,000 on it now and it's almost down to the wear bars. http://s2.images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif

Installed it on July 3, 2009, so that's roughly a year and a half. Would have gone through at least 2 motorcycle tires in that length of time.

I've got 13 to 14k on mine. Still looking good. I should be able to reach 20k.

Not sure if I am going to put a car tire back on it. As I mentioned before, I may be looking to trade or sell the bike. Don't get me wrong, I like the car tire, I just don't want something like that to blow a potential sale if it comes to that.

Not expecting to get another 21k on the bike before selling/trading it?

That does put you in a bit of a dilemma if not. If you go with a bike tire; you'll want to look at selling the bike before the tire is shot -- otherwise you'll be haggling over it when selling or trading the bike.

(I have 10,000 miles on mine and my tires still look good on my bike. Not sure why my Nomad tires worn-out so fast -- but they did.)

Anyway... good luck. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I'm pretty certain I'll keep mine another 2 years. I'm getting close to 30k miles. Just about broken in. I'm going to go with another CT. I want something a little taller with a stiffer sidewall so I don't drag my pipes riding 2 up. I've changed my outside baffle screws twice already. I don't have a scratch on the pipes yet. The outside baffle screws are at just the right angle to touch the pavement before the cans do. With the taller Cobra, the boards always scraped. Never the pipes.

I have been kicking the idea around of putting CT on the Nomad. The problem I have now after asking questions, I cannot find anyone to mount the tire. My dealer said he does not want to be held responsible since it is not recommended by Kawasaki. If it comes down to it I could do it myself but I really don't want to damage a new tire or the rim. Any suggestions?

Yeah that can be a problem. I wouldn't assume a Kawasaki dealer would do it. If you check on the Darkside forum on Delphi, they have a list of shops that will install a car tire, there might be one near you.

Find a mom-n-pop bike shop. They will usually do it.

It not that bad to change the tires yourself. There are quite a few videos on YouTube that show you how to do it.
Changing the tire on a warm day, so the sun can heat up the rubber really helps make it more pliable, especially if your new to changing tires. Also using some cut up peices from a plastic bottle to protect your rim helps keep it from being marked up.

Scott,....if you sell the Nomad which way are you thinking of going?? Harley Davidson Ultra Glide or would you think about the new Varquero or a good reliable Nomad. I'm going to guess though that you make a purchase of a full fledged touring bike. It would be hard to give up the full fairing, cruise control and nice stereo. What say you? Are you thinking of doing this before the National?

Scott - what are you now running on? and, what will you replace it with? Did you have to do any modifications to get install it?

Don't read too much into it, Rick. I have nothing planned yet. It wouldn't be another Nomad, I can promise that. Nothing wrong with the Nomad, but my tastes have changed some and a new Nomad won't get the job done.

I have a Dunlop SP5000 195/60/16 car tire. No modifications needed on the 1600 Nomad. It goes in like butter.

ABSOLUTELY! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif I mounted two car tires, one in the summer and last year about this time in the winter. I like to have not got the bike tire off and almost gave up on mounting the CT.

I'll search youtube to find the video that shows how to do it with out a tire changer and post later

Thinking out loud here...

Does anyone know the width of a 1600 rear wheel?

Has anyone tried a 160/80-16 tire on the rear?

Had the Dunlop E3 in that size on the bike. No problem. It is actually a taller tire than the 170/70 or the 180/60.

What would the advantage be?

It would make the speedometer more accurate, for one thing. You can count the number of 180/70-16 tires available on the market on one hand. Just considering other options.

Like Scott said - Speedo. I am running a 195/65 16 CT and the accuracy is within 5% compared to 10% with a stocker.

Scott, I'm pretty sure the width is 4.5" on the 16" rear wheel. The 160/80 you mentioned, is this a CT or MC tire?

Ok, but I can deal with 10% better than 5% as I try to figure out my speed http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

I have the SP 5000 mounted as well. But I'm wondering about something........A lot of guys are getting around 30,000 out of the SP and I'm wondering about other CT/s because 30,000 is many miles for a car tire..........

Yea I want my cake and eat it too. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I have the Continental Vanco 2 on mine. It has around 7,000 miles on it and I barely wore the tits off of it. At one rally, a couple of guys were looking at it and remarked about the amount of tread that this tire has. I hope to get close to 30,000 miles out of it.
