Looking for a little input from the forum members here. Wondering if any of you have installed the Cobra Tri-Oval slip on mufflers on your 1700 Nomads? Would be interested in your opinions....Don't want loud pipes, just deep and mellow. Looking at the new Vaquero and considering either the Cobras or the Vance & Hines slip-ons.

Happy Holidays....

Jim

All the above are a little pricey for me. I just drillrd out the first two baffels in my stocks and I think they sound pretty good...

Removing the baffels will give you a nice low tone with out all the noise and much better on your wallet.

Thanks for the welcome Kris. Been a VROC member since 98 and just stumbled across this forum recently. Looking to purchase a new Vaquero soon and hope to gain a lot of knowledge from everyone here. Currently riding a V2K, but that new Vaquero has caught my eye...

I removed the plate, and baffle from my 1700. Sounds nice, deeper and a little louder. I could go for just a bit louder still, but I don't want it enough to spend any $$ on it.

I'm told that you can break out the cat material and get some more volume...

If that's the case I'd like to try it and save some money to put into the air intake and pc. Is there a DIY on the cat gutting?

Not that I know of. you might try hunting down drno. He was the one who mentioned it in the 1700 garage board

Doing well Scott, hope you are too. After the first of the year, I'll try to put a bike night together and see if we can get the whole gang to come.

Happy Holidays...

Jim

I just drilled out the rivets on the plate, then dremeled the peashooter off...

I'm a firm believer in balance of the intake, fuel and exhaust. How the exhaust sounds shouldn't be the only mindset. IMPO. ;)

How does one achieve this balance? I have seen information about improving air intake, fuel management, and exhaust, but not something which addresses all three.

Dobeck TFI or Cobra fuel processor, a quality exhaust and opening up the air intake there's a few different ways for that. On opening the intake you can eliminate left side air filter and crossover tube or keep in. Chuckster sells backing plate set ups that are quality.

If you have any questions regarding things not in the gadget site guys like MAC or cactusjack would be glad to help you out in more detail.

If you're looking for a complete balance that brings the most possible (optimum,..perfect), out of the bike I haven't found anything either. My point was you should do all three.

I don't know about slip ons. My brother in law did slip on's on his VTX 1300 and he's not happy with the sound. Too loud for him. I think the best way to figure what you like is to find another Nomad and check how the specific exhaust mod sounds and then make a decision for yourself. I got lucky with the roadhouse exhaust. I didn't hear one on a nomad but my local dealer suggested the roadhouse. Not too loud but deep sound when you crack the throttle. Vance & hines is real popular on the nomad as well. When I decided on the roadhouse I also had help from this board when other members chimed in that already had the roadhouse and how they love that specific exhause.

You know that's what makes this site great. Looking for info on anything related to the nomad and you can get info.

I'd like to remind eveyone about making even the slightest donation to this site to offset the expense for trip and others that are keeping this site going for it's members. ;) ;)

On my last pipe, I added exhaust, Hyper Charger for the air intake, and removed the smog equipment, and blocked it off with block off plates. Also re-getted etc

I just bought my Nomad, and plan on doing all three at the same time down the raod also, except its fuel injected

true, but if my air/fuel mixture and exhaust flow are perfectly balanced and my bike sounds like a Singer, I'm willing to tweak it just a bit to increase my enjoyment of the ride
