Well the day finally came. I got the Nomad delivered home from the shop today. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif I'm thrilled with the work done. The paint looks frick'in awesome ! http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif !! Everything seems brand new. They had it all washed and shining, and there a window of dry weather where it wouldn't get wet and dirty coming home. I'll be in the garage all day tomorrow putting things in the trunk, rain gear away, maps in their place....Just chill'in and enjoying having it home. I'll be posting some photos of the new paint. But they won't do it justice I'm sure.

I'm think'in that you guys won't see much of a difference in any photos. The main difference is the fairing and fuel tank are now a two tone. The two colours are /can seem pretty similar. The lighting is what makes the difference. It can look like it's all blk. and then if you move a little and the lighting changes, it'll make the pearl gray "POP ! !" I'll do my best to show it off. Other than the paint everything is pretty much the same though. The crash bar chaps are a one piece item now. I have the "HogTunes" tweeter pkg. installed on the inner fairing.
They're forecasting some sunshine tomorrow so maybe I can get some half decent photos.

Rickyboy, I've been pondering a fairing, I like yours 'cause of the gages, I really wanna get some tunes and knock down some buffetting.
What brand is that?

Well here are a some photos of the bike after being fixed and painted from the accident. As I've said, it's hard to tell sometimes, if there are two colours. The sunlight brings out the Harley Davidson "pearl gray".
But in the shade it looks close to being the stock black. So the top half of both the fairing and the fuel tank are the pearl gray,....along with the entire tour pak. The rest of the bike is the stock black. I'm happy with the way it turned out. I have some ideas using more of the pearl gray, that might get done somewhere down the road. But for now I'm content the way it sits.

It's a Harley fairing with the H.D. light. So the fairing isn't cut.
The gauges are nice. I really like having the tachometer. I've always driven my vehicles, by the tach. So when this came to me with a tach. I was pretty happy. The windscreen isn't the stock one that you usually see. It's a bit wider and was cut to fit the wing of the fairing. That helps a lot !! That, and the "butterfly's" on the bottom edge of the fairing. Then add the larger lowers that meet up with the "butterfly's" and I have next to no air turbulence. I love it.

Happy to see you got her back and it looks terrific! Bet it feels just like having a brand new bike. Now you just gotta worry about that first scratch or rock chip all over again!! Looking forward to seeing it. :)

That's awesome Rick. I will try to drop by soon and have a look.

Oh and Kris that's Ho Ho Ho and a bottle of single malt.

I had no idea you like single malt by the way. That's something else we have in common.

I just ordered a 4 channel amp so I can drive a couple of woofers in the trunk speaker pods. I guess 6 speakers should do it. That, front progressive shocks and the steering head bearing should be my winter projects. Duffy made me a jack adapter so I am fixin' to put her up on the lift now.

Nice to see you're back online with us my friend. It's been a while. I know you've been busy though.
Let me know Dave when you're going to do the frt, steering bearing. I need to do mine and would like to <s>learn from your mistakes.</s> ;) watch you do it so I know how and what I need, to do mine.
I added a pair of tweeters to my sound syst. A pair of those "HogTunes" now grace the top of the inner fairing above the tach.. Sounds good. They're suppose to help when riding at hwy. speeds. A lot of high end gets lost. I also got the indicator lights and bezel that fits under the gauges. I hope to hook them up to the neutral, volt, oil during the winter. There are 4 lights and don't recall what the 4th is. Maybe if Greg "glwilson" reads this he can tell me.

I'm at "the cabin" right now Dave but maybe in the new year we can get together for a coffee. I'll be home later this week......Wed. Thurs.. But then there's something called Christmas happening. Maybe in between the Christmas and New Years if you have the time.

One thing I can tell you for sure if you do your steering head bearing, is that you will need to torque the steering head nut beyond what the book spec is. If you don't...you will end up with a wobble you never had....and will be taking it apart again to re-tighten it. I can't tell you how tight is tight enough....just that it needs to be over and above what the book calls for.

I had the shop do mine last summer. They set it at spec and it wobbled like crazy when I let go of the bars, something it never did before. It drove me crazy. They took it back apart and re-tightened it twice before that wobble went away. They didn't charge me for the re-do.....but we all learned something in the process. I know CJ had the same problem when he did his. I'm just sayin.....

Thanks Chris. I have a bit of a wobble right now and that's one reason for doing this. I plan on not putting the fairing and gear back on until I know its is right tight.

Is there any way you can ask the shop what the spec was that they torqued it at, Kris??? Hey Scott, do you know what they torqued it at??

Off the top of my head.....I think the spec is 43 in/lbs.....or something thereabouts. I watched the shop tech and he just turned the nut tighter with a special wrench....but not a torque wrench. After the first re-do.....the wobble was still there, but very slight. After he did that a second time....it was fine.

The first re-do he did not move it too much, but the second one he reefed it pretty good. I would guess between the two, he turned that nut a full half-turn beyond spec before the wobble quit, but we have no idea of the exact torque.

Ricky, the bike looks really, really sharp! Great color combination and pin-striping. You've got to be beside yourself and about to go nuts to ride again. ;) http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Regarding the "light" you are asking about. Not sure which you are referring to. The following is what I can remember off the top of my head on an Ultra's fairing. Maybe one of these will be your answer; however if not; let me know and I'll go get the manual.

Fairing-mounted electronic speedometer with odometer
Clock on CD player/stereo screen
Trip meter
Low fuel indicator and mileage countdown
Low oil pressure indicator
Engine diagnostics readout
6-speed indicator light
Cruise control indicator light
High Beam
Running lights
Front fender running lights
Directional light bar
Speakers (on-off)
Accessory switch
Security system (optional)

Again, the bike looks great man. One of my favorite color combination's http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Do you mean the ones showing the damage? I have some of those but they're just photos of the scrapes and "dings". Any photos of the fairing as a one colour/as I bought it..... are just that. The fairing was a single, solid, paint colour of the pearl gray. I was OK with it that way, this just happened. Cory {the member I bought it from} used "rattle cans to paint it. He did a reasonable job doing it too. I must say though there's a big difference having it professionally done.
