First off let me say this is a great website! Lots of good info. Currently I own a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 classic (small I know) but I'm looking to purchase a 2002 Vulcan Nomad with 45,000 miles on it. I need some advice as to what problems to look for or what sort of questions I need to ask about maintanence. Basically, looking for some suggestions for what I should be looking out for. Anyone had or heard of problems around this mileage point. Thanks in advance fellas!!

Clutch spring possibly? I know in the "highest mileage" there hasn't been too many complaints http://kawanow.proboards77.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1188409646

Typical things. Oil/filter changes, rear differential oil changes. clutch fluid, tires etc.

I would want to know with that mileage has maintaince been done or neglected, are there leakes, is alot of the stuff worn out(done), signs of repairs, etc. I would pick one with lower mileage myself, but thats my 2cw.

My 00 Nomad currently has 42,000 on it. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and put a rear tire on about every 8-10,000 miles and a front about every 18,000 miles. At 18,000 my clutch started slipping so I installed a new clutch spring. At 40,000 it started slipping again so I installed a new Mean Streak clutch spring (heavier duty than the Nomad but bolts right on). The clutch plates measured ok so I may change them next time. I also change the drive shaft oil as recommended. Othan than the clutch springs, no other mechanical problems. I also do my own maintenance and follow the advice on Gadgit's web page to do it.

Just do the maintinance (sp) the book says. They are pretty tough. Oh, and do not spend your days trying to blow that ZX14 or Huyabusa in the weeds! That is not good for long term engine life. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
