Well it is not new. Bought a 2009 Ultra Classic with 4000 miles. The price was just to good to pass up. Love the ride and the conforts. Still have the nad and not sure if I will sell or keep it. May sell it to my brother and get him to join KawaNOW. If he does that then I can go to the national rally as his guest. Before everyone condems me I loved the nad and still do. But I have always wanted an Ultra. I will never be one of those that think the Harley is the only way. I feel a rider should ride what he likes and can afford and be proud of it.
The nad is a good bike would not have a problem riding anytime.
While here I want to thank all of you for the help I have gotten with the nad. Hope if I do sell the nad that Trip will let me remain a member here the people are first rate here.

A person has to own what bike he wants. Harley's just aren't for me. Never had a desire to own one. They have some that are sharp and catch my eye. Goldwings or Nomads are about all I am interested in. Loved the Goldwing I owned and love my Nomad.

Thanks Dakota The bike does seem to be very solid. Alabama I have owned several bikes over the years Honda Yamaha and Kawa can not complain about any of them. I believe they are all well made but all a little different.
By the way we only live probally a little more than thirty miles from each other . Should get together for a ride some time. I live in Oxford and work at the PD in Anniston.

Sounds like a winner. Do you happen to know any game wardens? My son Chris is a game warden and works out of Ashville.
By the way I wasn't putting down the Harley. They are sharp bikes, I have just never wanted one.
I don't ride far when the weather cools down like it has and will be. I take short rides all through the year. When spring gets here I will try and ride down and visit you. Actually it take me about an hour to get to Anniston.

Alabama,
I have one son that lives in Albetville and one that lives in Fyffe. The one in Fyffe also rides and we sometimes get together to ride. The next time we ride if the weather is nice I'll try and contact you and see if u wish to join us if that dont happen when the weather does warm in the spring I will give u a shout and we can set up a day to ride.

Enjoy the new bike.

Congratulations on the new ride lawdog. Tie them together with a chain like we do with 4 wheel drive pickups and whichever one drags the other, keep that one. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I wouldn't condemn you for buying an Ultra, and you don't need to justify the purchase. There are others who own Harleys who are members here, so stick around.

Congrats on your new bike. I have one of the same... an '09.
In hindsight though... I wished I would have kept the Nomad as a second bike to ride. For no more than I got for it, I should have. Stupid move on my part.
Regarding the Nat'l Rally... you won't be the only Ultra there. I am coming down with around 5-6 Nomads, a GW, and my bike. (The HD's have to stay to the side and remain quiet though!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif)
Congratulations Lawdog! I really like the new Ultras and wouldn't hesitate to get one if I could afford it.

You know Greg, so do I, but it was one or the other. Some day though down the road, I'll probably pick up a 2008 just to have as a second bike (Mama hasn't been on the beemer yet... ). The 1700 is a completely different machine and I didn't like it as much as the 1600, although it may turn out to be a better bike, who knows.

I want to thank all of you. I believe I will go to the National no matter what. This group of people are first rate and I believe I would realy have a good time. Heck, I have not sold the nad yet if I don't get what I want for it then I will just keep it and go on it. It is to good a bike to just let it go for nothing.
For those who might want to know. The ultra is a dream on the road and around town the ballance is wonderful. With that said, I have road the nad to work the last couple of days. The nad is just as good a ride and I get more compliments when on it than I do when I am on the ultra. I probally should have put a fairing and trunk on the nad and saved a lot of money and would probally have been just as happy. Maybe.???

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS! NO PICS - IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!
All that said congrats. The new chassis, motor, and tranny really make it a nice bike.
Congrats on the new bike. Looking forward to meeting you in Maggie Valley.
Ponch, are you coming south on your new ride in June also?

If that is true, you would have done it. For whatever reason you moved on from the Nomad.
Having ridden an ultra and owned the Nomad, there are differences. The HD handles much better at low speeds. I couldn't believe the difference. I would even say it handles better than a voyager as well. whatever the case, have fun with it and at least you got to keep the Nomad. For me, it was ne or the other. I'll probably pick up a 2008 some day, just for tooling around.

My wife has a family trip to the west coast planned at that time, otherwise I would go. At this point, I am planning to go to the West Coast Rally instead, which for me is almost double the mileage, but it will be a good test.

Congrats on the new bike, In the Harley line the Ultra is one I love as well as the Street Glide! Hold on to you wallet as there are TONs of goodies to buy to bling it out :)
One thing about Harley is there is a dealer just about everywhere! Most cater to Harley riders on vacation and if you need repairs they put you to the front of the line..I heard that from a few friends who ride Harley's.. Metric dealers need to step up to the plate ..PICs are a must as well :)
Good luck

Try using Photo Bucket , Snap Fish or another FREE online photo hosting service..upload your pics there,, copy the Image Code and put in thread post...... FYI I learned that from my kids LOL
Congrats on the new ride. As the owner of a new ultra myself it is a great bike. I really liked my nomad and I like the ultra as well. It was just time for a change. I to hope to be at the June rally.

Not sure about all the metric dealers but the ones I've encountered, were always good to me. Two Jacks in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. fixed me up when I was in their area with a problem. Took the bike and 4 mechanics went at it, less than an hour later I was on my way. If your in that area, check them out.

Gerry, A few people I know need help on their bikes while on vacation.. Honda said were to busy to help right now.. I was in NH with a Buddie and his wife on their wing,, Broke a throttle cable, went to Honda they said come back next week....They knew he was on vacation...The wrench there had a buddie with a small shop.. sent him there, fixed in a hr.The other Honda dealer was in Va... My Honda/Kawasaki dealer in Bangor is pretty good but not sure they would move you to the head of the line if you were on vacation ......
06 in Va a buddy dropped his Ultra,,Caled HD Dealer a hr away. They said bring it in,went next am they said we exxpected you yestarday.Fixed the bent bars and did full safty check,,,,put on parts they had,Asked where we were headed next and said they would order remander of parts and have the shipped to that dealer....IMO thats service we do not see with metrics for the most part....... Glad you were lucky....

I wouldn't call you "stupid" Greg!! misguided? Maybe... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif I think if I was ever able to buy another motorcycle I would always keep the Nomad. There is a sentimental connection as to why I have the Nomad. {Thanks Nan,... God rest your soul}
No !!! good for you "lawdog" I kid any of the H.D. owners whenever possible. I know Greg will have a good come back and would have struck first if it were me with an Ultra. The Ultra is one Harley I would consider if one crossed my path.
(The HD's have to stay to the side and remain quiet though!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif) Now you promise eh Greg. ????

That's GREAT !! service no matter who's giving it. Not something I've come across before. Having said that though,....I am happy with the speed my local Kawai dealer is moving on my bike. I had "the accident" at the end of Oct. I think. They're finishing up getting all the parts on. They are dropping by my place to pick up the face plate and iPod and USB cable to make sure the stereo and sound syst. is working like it should. I can't get out with just having surgery. So that's pretty good of them. They also said they'd trailer it down to my place when they're "finished" so I can go over it and make sure I'm happy with the work. If there was anything that needed attention they'd either take it back to the shop or do it right there in the garage.
