When you found your Harley fairing, did you get it on Ebay? If so did it need any tabs or cracks repaired? If so, what did you fix it with?
Thanks,

Alot of guys got their HD fairing on e bay,, most needed some work, not sure about broken tabs,, If it is a older HD fairing it may be fiberglass(easier to repair0, the newer ones are Plastic,,I assume not to hard to repair either...
Steve Ringadingh has a Harley fairing.. Joe Chuckster makes brackets for the HD Fairing, Other then a pain to make brackets for it all seem to love it,, Using Chucksters brackets makes it a snap..
I used the Reckless Fairing,,and saved the hassle.. for 315$ cannt beat it

There are enough for sale right now, that you should be able to find ones without broken tabs etc.. I'd make a buy on one with scratches and body work before one with tabs/ threaded holes to fix.

Like Ricky said buy one that does not have broken tabs,,,keep checking EBayas well. The link Rick has for you is a GREAT price.
FYI with a Harley fairing you will have tons of gauge holes to mod as needed,,,After market fairing you have to ccheck as they come several ways

My fairing is a Premeux, and I added gauges and a stereo. It was already on the bike when I bought it. Its a very solid and well made fairing that is first class in workmanship.
I think if Id of had to install my own fairing I would have used a Harley, then Id have the instrument holes already made in the fairing. I think the inner fairings really finish the bikes off nicely when they are fitted with gauges and a stereo.

What guages did you use? Is yours carb or fuel injected model?

For me.....Cory/"strobe" had a tach, fuel gauge, volt meter, clock,....ahhh??? and the marine radio. The tach is such a nice thing to have. I might add a water temp one day,.....I just don't want to get a water/coolant leak.

My bike is an FI model. The gauges I used are from Princess Auto. They all work well except for the tach, it reads half of what it should and I tried a couple things to double the pulses but havn't figured it out yet.

Steve,.... it seems to me there are two coils for the Nomad isn't there? I remember "strobe" having an issue the first time he took the bike out with the tach. I'm no mechanic for sure but,.... could this be a "go to area" to solve your issue of the tach?

There are two ignition coils, but they fire at the same time, not one then the other. All four plugs fire at the same time, two at top dead centre and the other cylinder at bottom dead centre. The ignition coils each have two spark plug wires coming out of them, one to the front cylinder and the other to the rear cylinder.

I'll check with "strobe" and see what he thinks about this if you want. Have you posted here on KawaNOW and seen if there were any "fart smeller's"?

Just picked up an outer and inner fairing from the Meridian, MS harley dealer for $100. Both pieces in great shape with only minor scuffs on the outer fairing. That dealer was great to deal with and very friendly. I tried the dealer in Jackson but he was a jackass. Said he had some but didn't have time to look. Acted like he could care less. I'll drive the extra 100 miles next time I need a part. Can't wait to get my brackets made and mount it. I can't tell in your pictures but did you use the switch panel that goes on the inner panel (just in front of the handlebars)? Doesn't look like there is room for it.

I'm not sure about this switch panel area you're talking about. OR ! if you're even talking at me. But is the switch panel the one in the attached photo? That is for the Harley LED gear lights I think. The appropriate light lights up depending on what gear you're in. I am going to be looking for a false frt panel to fit that area on the new inner fairing when the bike gets back to me.

No I mean the panel that goes in front of and below the radio. I guess they call it the inner fairing switch cap. Looks like the mounting holes that are used to bolt it on the inner fairing has to be cut off the brackets to use on the Nomad 1500 (according to Sid's instructions on Gadgits page). Here's one on ebay:

OK I see where you mean,..... I don't have that on mine. the member who did the mod didn't incl. that on his. Will that even fit with the inner fairing on the Nomad?? You got me think'in now. I wonder with my new inner that's coming, if I should order one of these. I don't have my bike here to even look at. It's in the shop being repaired and painted.

I don't see how it would fit unless you move the headlight foward and maybe the lightbar too. Plus, The fairing mounts have to be cut to allow it to go down past the forks. I think a 1600 is wider so maybe they don't have to be cut. Does yours use the harley headlight or is it cut to fit around the Nomad light?

No........ he used the Harley headlight.

I just found a complete harley headlight assembly on craigslist locally for $25. That would probably save me a lot of time so I wouldn't have to cut the outer fairing. I have a fire and steel lightbar so not sure if it will fit with the harley light. Maybe I can modify the mounts if it doesn't.

Looking at this photo from the web page, I doubt the switch plate would fit really. Unless I'm all wrong.

I have the cobra light bar and we had to make a couple of brackets to extend the light bar out far enough so it didn't hit the fairing. No huge deal though. I'd buy the light assembly for that coin. Nothing is cut on my fairing. With the exception of the shield on the H.D. headlight , I like the whole thing.

I have to ask what you have for "down turn" extentions you have coming from your exhaust. Are those stock debaffled pipes?
zoom45
11-23-2010, 04:44 PM
Just took my headlight off and looked. I will have to move the light bar foward to clear the outer fairing.
Yes stock pipes debaffled. I welded a sleeve in it that sticks out about 1 1/2" with a pin welded in the middle. I cut a Wal-Mart exhaust extension in half and screwed it on the sleeve at the bottom.

I'm sorry but I don't get it. Sure look nice. I might make them shorter if possible but I like them. They must make a nice sound as well.
I'll send a PM with questions. Unless you can give me more of a description via PM
