View Full Version : What would you do???
I have a client who bought a new HD ultra limited a couple of months ago. He recently suffered a serious health problem and can no longer ride. So I can get the bike (26K list new) with less than a 1000 miles on it for less than 18k! What would you do?
If I had the money available, I'd buy it.

Man an 8k depreciation in just a few months that sucks I thought the whole thing with HD was the resale value.

Not being the market for another bike I haven't been pricing them. But, this sounds like a good deal to me. If ya want that top of the line hog and can afford it I'd say do it.

I'd scoop it up Mark. That's a great buy for a 2011, even if it's a 2010.

If you have the money and want it, go for it.

That is one heck of a good deal.....but it is still an HD. How much will your maintenance costs increase? How much will you have to spend to get the HD pillow cases, toilet seats and matching shower curtains.... ::)?? Just want to make sure you consider all of the implications of a purchase such as this..... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif ;)! After careful examination and all things are considered, if you still feel the need....more power to you!

I'd buy it too, if I had the $18,000. Even if I didn't have the $$$. Because I'd flip it and make a few G's.

One of my good friends just bought a Limited about 4 months ago. Really a nice bike. He actuallly traded in his '09 Ultra because the Limited is geared differently. He said the standard Ultra's chassis was great, but it wasn't geared well and didn't pull his trailer very well. He said the Limited is much better.

Sounds like a heck of a deal. So... I take it the Victory idea is being pushed aside?

I think you should buy it, obviously you are interested or you wouldn't have posted a question here for us. If you are saving that much over the previous owner, even if you didn't like it (small chance of that) you could sell it for your purchase price plus tax, title, registration and insurance. And then add on 10% for your time. Sounds like a win, win to me. Good luck.

Essentially a brand new bike for $8k under the purchase price? If I had the money, I'd go for it.

i would buy it.having said that, harleys no longer bring the great
resale values they used to.thier market is saturated and there
are lots of used harleys for sale.

I have the same leaning as Kris. Great deal for a turnover, but if you intend to keep it, you have to like it. If I was going to drop another $18K on a motorcycle, it would come with shaft drive, liquid cooled, and low maintenance. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif That's why I got the Nomad in the first place. I would have had no problem dropping $30K if HD had a comparable machine, but they don't. . .

Mark, it appears obvious to everyone. I'd buy it too. They are good ride and your client needs the bucks so you'd be helping a rider in need and getting a deal of a lifetime in return.

I agree with BD on this. Will help both of you out.

It is a good buy for someone, but me personally, I am not interested in spending 18K on a used bike. I would prefer a used Nomad for 6k and spend the other 12k on something else. Flipping bikes in Texas is difficult, the sales taxes have to paid unless your a dealer.

Mark, talk Paula for a ride on it and let her decide. ;)
The 2010 and up has been greatly improved over the previous models, something else to consider.

If I had $18,000 I would be buying a Yamaha Venture.

I'm guessing you have allot of cassette tapes you're not ready to give up.

You know that if you buy a Harley, you have to stop wearing a helmet, buy a do-rag and you can't wave to anyone that's not on a Harley anymore, right? Oh yeah, and you have to buy a trailer to put it on to take it places. :-)

Actually I do have a lot of cassette tapes now I come to think of it. I just fancy a different bike, thats all. The ergonomics of a Gold Wing dont suit me, I dont like the Voyager or the new Nomad. The Vaquero looks good but I usually carry a passenger and I was never a fan of Harleys.
I took VulcanE's advice and put the wife on it and she loved it.It really is a great ride. I guess I'm gonna go with it. I hope I won't be banished from the forum!
Mark,
If you don't buy it, let me know. I'd like to have a look.

Congrats Mark, Even though it's a Harley, it is a GREAT bike. Next time Diana and I are up that way, I'd like to stop by and check it out (and Diana would love to see Paula again too), that is if you'll still associate with us rice burner riders. ;) http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
Cliff come on by anytime.
So, do we get to make an offer or?.....

That is a screamin deal. Buy the bike, you will love it. At that price if you find that it is not what you want you will be able to sell it and get your money back. I believe you will like it. I recently purchased an ultra. Anything less than an ultra or maybe a wing your better off with the nad. The ultra and the wing or in a different class both different but they are the top.
