Has anyone here done the stove rope wrapping on the V & H Baggers? If so what diameter and how many feet of rope did you use? If you have done this did you have a noticeable drop in the loudness of the mufflers?

TIA

Someone here has done it recently, I think it takes about ten feet or so. Its in one of the V&H posts on the boards here.

I suggested this a couple yrs back but then went with the UB so never tried it. Im still thinking it would give a nice deep mellow roar. Good Luck.

What is "stove rope"? I have an idea, but I'm not sure.

Believe I used 3/8" and the package at Ace Hardware had about 10' in it. That was enough wrap one V&H baffle. I run the V&H's when two up as it is much more mellow. I run the UB's when I'm solo, as they are just too cool to not use. I get complimnets from the HD boys at Bike Night when I solo out the Nad and run the UB's

Scott I think it is the insulation stuff that fits around stoves. It is pretty heat resistant. I know it can be found at hardware stores.

Try re-packing the baffles. I used (2) pieces of Ø 1/2" stove door gasket, each 10 feet long. I wired the gasket to the slots in the baffles and wound it snugly around the baffle and wired it in place on the opposite end. Then I covered the gasket with a package of fiberglass mat used in auto repair. I held the fiberglass mat in place with mechanic's wire. This dropped the exhaust note and reduced the sound and tinny sound. It now purrs just louder than the wind noise blowing around my helmet.

I don't think my stove has any rope on it. ??? I thought it was what they used to seal the joints on the flue pipes of old wood burning stoves. ???

We use it on casing doors on our gas fired boilers. The stuff we use is impregnated with asbestos. It's soft and pliable and the asbestos is only friable where rough cuts or tears are made to the fabric. The boilermakers cut it with razor knives and wet it before cutting to prevent the fibers from flying around (becoming friable). I think it would be great to wrap V & H baffles with but I can't buy it and don't want to get fired for "borrowing" some of it. It is virtually indestructable. It glows but does not burn when an oxy/acetelyne torch is held on it.

CJ its heat proof rope used mainly to go around a door on a wood stove to seal that door when shut so smoke/fumes dont escape.

Aha, I never had a wood stove, so that explains that. Good to see you here, Doc.
