Hi All,

Well its time to start the off season painting project.
I've got a front HD fairing, HD king tourpak and set of hard plastic lowers to paint.

I decided to keep with the stock colour scheme, blue + grey, (though I was tempted to do a red bull theme).

Now being the cheep ass (I mean frugle) individual I am, and when looking at the prices of paint on the colorrite site, I got to thinking....
"are there any other brands of paint that are close?"
Perhaps I can use a can of dark blue metalic from rustoleum, and silver

Once I do that, if they don't look quite right, perhaps then I could stretch a single spray can of color rite blue and silver (1 can of each :)) as a top coat. (followed of course by a few coats of clear coat)

Thoughts - is this a reasonable plan or destine for disaster?
Or better yet, has anyone found a good substitute to the colorrite paint?

Thanks
B.

also - can I use any generic clear coat for the top coat? Is there any reason to pay the premium for color rite's brand?

Brian, There are lots of automotive paint supply stores in the Edmonton area that you can take your bike into and have them scan and colour match. They will match your paint colours and mix you up rattle cans or containers for a sprayer if you prefer. Same thing for clear, do not buy from color-rite, it is way to expensive.

I think Radco found a blue color that was very very close. Im sure if you go to a decent paint shop they will be able to come up with something that works.
I wouldn't pay those colorite prices either, Id repaint the gas tank and fenders to match the other parts before I resorted to that.
As long as the clearcoat is compatable with the undercoat paint it should also work, the paint shop should be able to help you out with that as well.
