View Full Version : installing a King TourPak

I finally painted my King TourPak and I am ready to remove the Venture trunk from my bike. The tourpak has a metal rod underneath to strenghten the base. This rod will prevent the base from being flush with my WOMPUS rack. If you have this setup, how did you install the trunk?

Thanks

Im not sure what you mean about a rod underneath the
tour pak, mine has a couple of gussets formed into the plastic bottom but it still able to be mounted flat on a Wompus rack.

A picture of what you're talking about is worth a thousand words...

Here is a picture without the Rod. The surface is neither flat nor even anywhere.

Thats exactly what mine looks like underneath, remove the piece of tubing , you don't need it.
It will mount on the Wompus rack with three existing holes, two at the front, and one at the back in the centre.
You should also have a galvanized peice of sheet metal that is almost the size of the entire bottom inside the Tour Pak. You can fasten it with three 1/4 20 bolts and it will sit fine on the rack.

What I did with mine, since the back of the trunk is hanging off the wompus rack, is to sandwich the wompus rack between the trunk and the bar. I made a spacer for the very rear to make up the difference of having the wompus rack between the 2 pieces. It did make it a lot more sturdy too. In the second photo, you can see the spacer from the rear.

Cliffs way is good, especially if you mount the trunk a little further back. It will be mounted very solid with that method.

For those who are using the Harley type trunk I am now making a rack that's deeper then standard.
The regular Wompus rack for the Nomad is 14 wide by 10 deep. I'm now making them 14 by 14 to keep more rack under the large trunk.. AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU!
I just need to know that you are using the larger trunks.

Now that I have installed the new trunk, I am selling the venture trunk and quick disconnect bracket for $180 plus shipping. The trunk is in good condition but has a very small crack on the corners of the lid. Here are some pictures:
