Disclaimer. There is no cure-all for everyone and I don't imply to change what people do. This is just what worked for ME.
My Mom is 80 and has had vertigo for the past 5 years. After 1 1/2 years of tests, meds, pills, stretching classes ( yes thats what I said ), she went to my DC that works with me for back & shoulder concerns.
After detailed x-rays, the c-2 or c-3 vertabre ( I don't remember exactly which one) was WAY out of whack pinching nerves all over. After 1 month of 3 trips a week, she takes NO meds and only goes 1 time a week.
It is amazing. She toddles up and down the grocery, library and in the garden and is not dizzy at all.
Vertigo is a weird thing. There seems to be alot of ways around the problem, but for US, this was the answer.
It really bothered me because she was always in good health except the vertigo.
So.... If you know someone with it... this worked for us. Just a option people.... I am not slamming the medical communtiy.

rfl.... I'm very happy for you mom!! Vertigo sucks.......

I've witnessed and been part of many chiropractic "miracles"!

Remember...... Chiropractic doesn't treat disease or symptoms.... we are not medical doctors. What we do is align the spine so as to allow for proper nerve flow. If improper nerve flow was the cause, or contributing cause of the condition..... then the symptoms go away... it it wasn't. they just don't.

Beware of any chiro that says he can cure disease... not true.

The body tends to be self-healing.... given the proper nutrition, rest, excercise, and nerve flow.

My favorite patients are the ones who have gone to their MD... seen all the specialists, and are told nothing else can be done except drugs or surgery for the symptoms........ that's where chiropractic shines.

Once again...... Very happy for your mom... bless her heart!

Yours in Health,

Nico

As a nurse it never ceases to amaze me how our MD's want to just give you a pill for everything. IMO

I'm sure your mom was on meclazine at one time for her vertigo....funny one of meclazine's major side effects is 'dizziness'.

What a lot of folks don't realize is how much the major drug companies contribute toward medical schools, medical education, perks etc..... Of course, this is also something I'm sure some will disagree with.

Prozac nation. ;)

Cool. The Chiropractor I had when i was young got me into bikes. He has ridden 500K miles on BMW bikes. A real character that retired to NC and I miss him a lot. When I went to college, originally, I wanted to be a Chiropractor. I went two years to a community college majoring in Bio, and didn't do so well because I wasn't serious and got hooked up with some chick. I often wonder what would have been if I had done it. I ended up finishing school 5 years later and now I work in IT as an IT director, and I am 3 weeks from my MS. Out here in IA there are too many DCs, and I wonder how they all make it. Still, it is a worthwhile profession and has gotten me back on my feet more than a few times. Dr. Nico. So where did you study? I had looked at NY Chiropractic and Parker. I have a cousin that went to Life. That was a long time ago.

Looks like the med types want me to go have surguries done for my carpal tunnel and I went to a DC and the symptoms went away for almost a year... now almost a year later, pain, numbness came back.. went to a different DC and no response.. said maybe I need to have the surgery... but I am a kidney transplant patient (Jan 2002, my little sister gave me a kidney) so my left arm still has an AV fistula so I am a bit leary of the surgeries... Maybe I will find yet another DC and see if he or she has any better luck...

P.S. the total numbness and pain from riding does not seem to be near as bad (or come on as fast) with the new Nomad so maybe I can put it off for a bit longer... worried a bit about the perceived weakness of the hands from time to time..

Anyway, sorry to have rambled on so much about my medical ills. I guess many folks have these symptoms while riding...

Again, thanks for listening. :-)

I graduated from Pasadena College of Chiropractic in 1987.. Magna cum laude, Valedictorian. The school was later absorbed by LACC--Los Angeles.

You made the right choice to go into IT..... between the infighting within the profession, the nuts that think they are MD's.. and the propaganda from the medical profession, along with the non-standardization of curriculum between the different schools, you made the right choice!

That's why I specialize in "Posture Correction"... people can relate to that.... Structure affects Function.... keep the spine aligned and things just work better....... you feel better...... no wild claims........ no scare tactics..... no long term treatment plans.....

And BD........ no G*d D*mn Insurance!!!!!

Scion0 - I did acute hemodialysis nursing for about 1 and 1/2 years. Other nurses who have never been a dialysis nurse always asked me what was the worse part of the job. For me it was my heart strings cause you really got to know the folks and it was tough to see them get worse and I greived when one of our pts would pass away.

If folks only knew how much good they could do with organ donation.......................................... ...................

When I first came out here, I went to guy that had the long term plan. I was in pain and he didn't do the lumbar roll until the third visit. WTF. He also cracked more than just the back. I ended up going to a guy like the guy I went to in NY. Your back hurts, come and I will help you, if not, stay well. This guy was also not afraid to get medieval on me. I mean airborne. It worked though, which is all that matters.

I agree, I was only on dialysis for about 10 months or so... but my IgAN was the only thing (medically http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif) wrong with me and as a computer type, I always took a laptop and watched DVDs.

But the transplant has really saved my life... gotta love it!

I wish no one had to die while waiting on an organ...

Thanks for the kind thoughts...

Now back to your regular biking news... http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif
