My trusty 03 Nomad has 51,000 mile.... The 98 Valk Tourer I recently aquired has 18,000 miles. Can't keep both? I will tell you there are definately plus / minus to both bikes....

The Nomad, without a question.

Its a tough choice, but I may go with the Valk, mainly because of the lower mileage, but its also five years older as well.

You have to look into your heart and make the choice.... that the Valk is going to be history! http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I'd sell them both and buy the new Kaw 1700 Voyager Custom...

As cool as the Valkyrie looks, I wouldn't want a 13 year old bike. I vote for the Nomad.

Difficult choice. Both bikes are amazing.

I for one would choose the Nomad. No wait, I chose a Nomad.

I too would go with the Nomad. It is a newer bike even thought it has more miles. The 98 is older with older parts in it. That means it has sat a lot and sitting for any bike or any car isn't always a good thing. 51,000 miles isn't a lot of miles if it has been serviced properly.

You obviously have had a chance to evaluate both bikes, which one do you like the most? For me personally I would go for dependability. You know your Nomad and there is a lot less parts to mess up.

I would think of a way to keep both if possible. Then ride the nomad and occasionally ride the Valk.
Or sell the Valk. to me. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif That won't work, the wife won't let me buy a drifter either. :(

I wanted a Valk when I found the Nomad and I'm glad i chose the Nomad for only one reason, weight. The Nomad in plenty heavy for me, the Valk would have been worse.

I think you've got the best of both worlds....
the valk is a classic bike, but as everyone is saying if you're actully putting on alot of miles I'd be hesitant on keeping it long term with an extinct bike.

I say ride the valk for another short while so you can truely feel like you owned, and rode a valk..... then consider keeping the nomad for the long term.

Keep whichever you like the best thats the only answer that is true for you

Vinnie,
I was wondering after we spoke what happened in this case, but I see you bought the Valk! You have ridden them and know what you like and dislike about both. The Valk has less miles, but will be more expensive to maintain with parts at a premium. Gas mileage may or may not be an issue for you. It's really whatever you decide....but if I remember, you got a really good deal on the Valk, so you may even make some money on a re-sale. The Nomad will continue to be a good friend for many more miles if you have treated her well, and I know you have! One last thing to consider....look how many friends you have already made here at KawaNOW! Do you really want to start all over on a Valk forum... http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif?? Good luck with whatever you decide and do keep us posted.

You have two of my 3 most favorite bikes.

Only you can answer the question.

Assuming they are both in good shape what suits your needs best? Do you need the extra power of the Valk? Which one is more comfortable? Do you do a lot of touring? Which is best for that?

Is money an issue? Which one is more economical to own?

I would not be too concerned about the Valk being "extinct" as many of the parts are interchangeable with the Gold Wings of that era. But they are probably more expensive.

The issue having older rubber parts would be more of a concern. But even that issue may not be an issue if the bike was run regularly.

Which one makes you enjoy the riding experience more?

Which one allows you to feel like a full feldged KawaNow member? ;)

I don't think you can make a mistake regardless of which way you go.

Good Luck

You will have your own opinion on this, but I rode a Valkyrie for an entire day to evaluate it and declined further interest due to its throwing off such an enormous amount of heat..

Also, my feet were not nearly as comfy as they were on my Nomad..

Only saying,

I'm always amazed by the price differences of the Valk's. I read CL occasionally and I've seen them for sale in Maine for as little as $3500.00. But most are going for $6000.00. I saw one here in Vermont, it says pro built motor, asking $22,900.00. WTF....

So, give us the pros and cons of each to help you decide.
Having had an older bike, I would think it would be fun to keep both and use one while working on the other.

Just glad I don't have to make that decision. Always wanted a Valkyrie before I learned of the Nomads. Love my Nomad, but that's still a toughie. 51,000 is a lot of miles.
