Thought it would be interesting to see what kind of occupations people have. I'm a truck driver for Con-way Freight. We do meet and turns so the drivers are home everyday.

I loved what I did until I became the manager. Correct Title should have be (BABY SITTER).

I am a process operator in a chemical plant. I make polypropylene plastic from chemical feedstocks that could go K-F-B if they got out of hand. In a former life I was a Pipefitter/Fabricator. And as I have done for the last 25 years (in my spare time) I ride the big red trucks slaying dragons and rescuing damsels in distress.

I'm a Production Supervisor for Emerson Electric. We are the worlds best appliance motor builders. We build washer and dryer motors. There's about an 85% chance that if you own a Kenmore, Whirlpool, Maytag, Speed Queen, or Ammana and a few more I can't think of," Washer's or dryer's the motor was built by us in Paragould, Ar.". It will say St. Louis, Mo., but that is where corporate headquarters is.

Worked for Grumman / Vought aircraft for 17 years. Then in 04, they we to close the Stuart Florida plant and relocate the work to Dallas Tx.
There are two plants, Marshall street and Jefferson Ave.
Kept getting the run around about our relocation package so, I work now for the county property appraisers office.
Now here is the kicker. Things changed and some of the work that went to Dallas is coming BACK here and the place is staying open!! I'm seeing if I can get back to my old job and not just a new hire.

I was asked that question just recently. Stopped in at the Harley shop to pick up one of those suspension no-loss pumps but got caught looking at a Road King by a hungry-looking salesman . He says, "Looks good, huh?" I'm thinking, "Not as good as my Nomad," but I just nod. He says, "Listen to this," and starts it up to play the music of burning testosterone.

"Anybody can drive a sports car," he says, "But when you ride one of these, everybody notices, especially . . ." and he looked around and leaned in to me "especially The Babes."

"Yeah, so I hear."

He extends his hand. "I'm Jim." I shake his hand. "I'm Neill."

"What do you do for a livin' Neill?"

"I'm a Presbyterian minister, Jim."

He got this deer-in-the-headlights look, then opened his mouth, but nothing came out. Finally, he says, "You wouldn't believe the gas mileage these babies get."

I am in my 2nd career and I hunt DUIs. My unit number is Five-Forty-Six. Hence dui546. I am a police officer and I am assigned to a traffic unit. I am also retired military (U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer). BUT, I now enforce traffic laws, search for impaired drivers and drive an unmarked dark blue police car. I tell people that my job is to simply "keep honest people honest." Most of them get it, some do not. I pretty much have an "open door policy." If I open my door, somebody is going to get a ticket." ;) Ofcourse I AM JOKING about that but there is also some truth to it because I usually only spend my time stopping the big offenders.

I am one of the guys who work the crashes that involve serious injury and death. A couple of nurses at the E/R call me the "death cop" because they say that everytime my shadow crosses their door somebody is about to die...and I have watched many. The sad part of my job is making death notifications. Especially when it involves teenagers or young adults. :'( There is no good way to give a parent or spouse that news. Given that, I take a very proactive approach in the areas that cause the crashes such as excessive speed, DUI/DUID, reckless driving, etc. DUIs are my passion and I have zero tolerance.

I have personally made 102 DUI arrests so far in 2007 and it is sadly only the end of September. My highest BAC arrest this year belonged to a 41 year old female and it occurred at 5:30 in the afternoon. She had a .449 BAC and was on her way to Walmart. In other words, she was a textbook "functional alcoholic." Think of her navigating your neighborhood streets and that will scare ya. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

And, in case you are wondering...my highest speeding offense this year was 130+ MPH...two sport bikes that initially past me at 80 mph on same direction radar. I got to drive fast! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif and they learned that you cannot out run a radio and a helo. The judge gave 'em both 30 days to think about it. Doh!

What else do I do? I live life like today is my last. Amy is my young school teacher bride, I have two daughters 23/21 and a grandson who is 3 (my little buddy). My Nomad is my gift to me. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Dui - We appreciate you're service. With years under my belt as an RN in a ED we get to see the LOVELY (I'm being fascias) drunks, druggies etc.. that you guys and us nurses have to deal with so much of the time. General public just doesn't realize some of the crap we have to put up with at lot of times. You know how some drunks are aggressive, cursing and defensive but I can actually tolerate that much better than the ones who come in and start crying and bawling 'I can't help it'. Yeah they're crying not because they may have caused a wreak but because they were caught. Please........drink if you want but don't get behind a wheel and drink there's just no excuse period.

Okay - off my soap box now....whew I feel better.

DUI thank you for trying to save lives. I helped organize a Multi-Agency DUI Task Force here in Pocatello about 15 years ago. It is still going strong. Now I volunteer as a State Police Chaplain. Regular job is for an electric utility, have 7 technicians in my shop. Also serve as an Episcopal Priest at a small town 25 miles west of here. They love it when I show up on Sunday on the bike wearing leathers. Also started a non-profit corporation to restore a local river system. That is another story.

I appreciate all the nice comments. I think awareness is the best deterrent in keeping impaired drivers off the roadway. I can see that each of you are doing your part in the land you live in. :) The snapshot weekend partying DUIs will always be out there. The sad ones are the people who regularly consume large amounts of alcohol. Their situation is always a symptom and indication of other problems that really need addressed in their lives.

Unwind - My daughter is going to get her RN pin on October 19th. It has been a long journey for her and I am proud of her. YOU are so right about intoxication and crying! TOTALLY Annoying.

Socw - After last Sunday...I cannot comment because those pansie Steelers had it handed to them by the Cardinals. I am still a huge fan and hope that they got a humbling eye opening. There is a lot of season left Mr!

Idaho - You are really giving back to the community in everything you do. As we would say in the military -- "BZ" or "Bravo Zulu" which means "Good Job!" As you know, sometimes the lives that are saved in tragedy are the ones that are left behind. Our volunteer Chaplains play a huge role in our department.
