What I mean is this..
I'm old..but not retro..this might be the last bike to ride.
I want to know what one can do to keep the bike on the road.
The things one can do without dealer service.
I know..some of you are doing everything themselves.
And that's good..but what special tools are needed along the road is a puzzle to me.
That's why I ask.
What can one do to keep the bike on the road?
What tools do you need?
Currently I want to change the oil and filter.
Dealer is asking 110 euro's for that..including the filter.
Now..I did that in the past on other bikes for just a fraction of the price..no special tools needed.
In short..can anyone here tell me how to proceed to keep a 2005
16000 miles on the clock Nomad on the road?
I mean..doing it yourself..without being robbed.
Please..all you self supporting guys out there..let me know.

An oil change costs me about $20.00 CDN. Even if I used a $12.00 filter and synthetic oil, it wouldn't be over $45.00.
Most of the bike can be serviced with basic metric wrenches and sockets. Take a look at the shop manual posted on these boards and it lists all the special tools required, and the service schedule, but youll find that you can do most of the maintenance without the special tools, or by improvising a little.
And as mentioned Gadgets Fixit sight will also tell you all you will need to service the bike.

If you don't have a service manual, get one. The PDF version is here on the forum in the garage section.

Basic metric tools are mainly what you are going to need to do 99% of the work. Socket wrenches, Allen wrenches, Torque wrench, etc. Occasionally you'll need some special tool, but not too often. Gadgets page will not lead you astray. :)

Hey Jan,

Bob (you know wich Bob I mean) is a very honest guy and you know that he is helping everyone for a reasonable price.

Bring your ride to Motorshop De Mammoet

The best oil
The best filter
The best service
The finest coffee

I don't have shares in this company but that's the way I see it.

Maintenance is more than just an oil change!

Greetings!
