Thought I saw a thread on here about installing a Baron Tachometer on a 1700 Nomad but can not find it now. Does any one know where that thread is? I, need to know if the Tachometer Adapter needs to be used on the 1700 Nomad. I, know it is not required for the 1500 and 1600 Nomad.

I started this thread this morning sence then then I installed the Baron tach without the Adapter and it seems to be working fine. did not go for a ride yet because it started raining and I don't want to do a big clean up job on bike.

Any one with a 1700 Voyager or a 1700 Nomad with a tachometer. I Would like to know what your RPM is at 60 MPH in 6th gear. or any gear and speed combo you can remember and I can check it out on my bike. Still raining here so havent rode bike sence I put the Baron Tach on today.

Let me talk to myself some more here. did a serch this morning for (Tachometer) and nothing was found. Just tried it again now and got lots of results. don't know what I did wrong. got the tach installed already but will read all the posts anyway.

Well, went for ride today and it looks like I need to use the Tach Adapter with the Baron Tachometer. Tach only showes 1200 RPM at 60 MPH (Speedometer at 64 MPH)in 6th gear. so the 2010 1700 Nomad must be Single Fire. I cant find where it says one way or the other in oweners manual or in the service manual downloaded from the 1700 garage board.

I'll chime in just so you know you are not the only one on the forum ;)
1200 at 60 mph is probably 1/2 the actual rpms. Sooooooooo, yup, you need the adapter.

Thanks for the reply TC Just getting ready to go get a piggy back connector so should have it working by the end of the day. The fire and steel Tach from Kawasaki for the 2009 and 2010 Nomad has only 3 wires according to the instulation instructions on the Kawasaki web site so that tach must be made different from the baron tach. if I had it to do over I would get the Fire and steel tach but I had this baron tach on the 900LT and kept it when I traded for the 1700 nomad.

OK for anyone that might want to know the 2010 1700 Nomad needs the baron single fire tachometer adapter to be used with the baron tachometer. in 6th gear Tach reads 2400 RPM at an indicated 65 MPH. Glad that is done with.

Glad you got it working ripper. We have a barons tach on my wifes 900 lt and it did not need the adapter.

TC. I, used the adapter on my 2009 900LT but after reading your last post went and got the instructions out and thay say VN900 & VN2000 for known fitment of the adapter and does not say any thing about 900LT so it works with or without the adapter on the 900LT. If I remember rite the tach read 3900 RPM at 70MPH on the speedometer. The way I read instructions its a good thing that wasn't my day to do brain surgery's.

I have a tach on my 09 Nomad and it is definitely a single fire ignition. You DO need the adapter.

Submarinerwolfe. What kind of tach do you have on your 09 Nomad and what does it read at 65 MPH on the speedometer? Did you have any trouble getting to the Neg side of the right coil ?

It is a barons tach just like you mentioned in your earlier post.. easiest thing for me was to unbolt the coils to connect them, and both them back up. Took a little fiddling, but wasn't that bad really.

more than one way to get job done. I thought about unbolting coil but went to hardware store and got a long neadle nose plyers that I could reach the - side of coil after disconecting the + side. That took some fiddling to because - side is hard to see.
