Anyone have a good alternative to the Kawasaki steering stem nut wrench? I don't want to buy another limited use specialty tool.

I use a punch and tap gently. I made a tool a year or so ago, but havn't tried it out yet.
You can also make one from an adjustable wrench and a couple bolts. I think Gadgets page shows how to make it, or at least a picture of it.

I used a punch and small hammer. I struck it very gently.

I had a standard spanner wrench that has a pivot half way around the neck, I had to grind a little off the nub so it would fit in the slots, works great

If you are going to knock something, knock softly but firmly. Soft firm knockers are the very best kind.
