I was on the Super Slab earlier today crusing at 84 mph(according to GPS). Suddenly I heard the unmistakable high pitch whining of an engine and saw the headlights behind me. The next thing I knew, the crotch rocket was next to me and just as quickly, it disappeared into the horizon on the straightaway. At 84 mph, it felt like I was standing still. I have no idea how fast the rider was going but the time from when I first heard the sound and when he disappeared was only a few seconds.

I frowned in envy for a few minutes and wondered what it must feel like to go so fast on two wheels. But then I rememered that I was on my way home from a 600 + mile road trip to the PA Grand Canyon and I had my camping gear and enough personal items to last me a few days on my bike with me. So I released the throttle lock, eased to 75mph, leaned back into my back rest, raised my legs on the highway pegs, put the big smile back on my face and said "I bet he cannot do that".

I remembered why I ride this 1500 Nomad and enjoyed the rest of my ride home without anymore envy.

He will only ride for a couple of seasons like that, at best. You should be able to log many miles. Good on you.

Riding at 84mph and packing gear while still being very comfortable. That is to be envied. And rates a big smile.
Thanks for your time

The crotch rocket driver will probably become an organ donor in the near future.

They ain't even fit for that most of the time. A greasey spot is about it mostly.

I know what you were thinking as he passed you EG. Not long after I purchased my Nomad, I was cruising East on LA-20 when suddenly I heard the same high pitched screaming engines. Two of them passed me in my lane, one on each side of me as I was riding the center of the lane. The one on my left was on both wheels and the one that passed me on my right was on the back wheel. I was putting along at about 60 mph indicated. Those guys had to have been doing at least 100 mph. They both disapeared in no time and the guy on the right continued riding on the back wheel until he was out of sight. They scared the crap out of me when they blew by. They take foolish chances but some of those kids can ride.

Yes, some of those kids can ride, but most of them THINK they can ride. I remember being that way back in the 70s when a KZ 900 put me in the hospital for a couple of weeks with all kinds of broken bones, and road rash. Now that I'm wiser ;) I enjoy being able to ride on long rides, and when I get there, I can still stand up and walk without being sore and stiff! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

When I want to hear the sound of a crotch rocket I just go out and fire up my chainsaw. That satisfies me completely.

I've had similar experiences as well. I've even seen Squids doing wheelies up and over the Miss River bridge here in Baton Rouge. I have to admit that I can recall the young and stupid days very well. These kids scare me to be on the same road, but what can you do except shake your head, and enjoy your leisurely Nomad ride. LOL !!

Back in the 70's I used to ride like every ride was a race. Now 65 mph is fast enough for me and its the reason why I bought my 1600 Lazyboy recliner. My shoulders, neck, back, and legs cant handle a crotch rocket anymore. Half an hour and you would have to peel me off the bike.

After I first got my Nomad, my buddy and I were riding to Prescott. We took the scenic route, which is Wickenburg, Yarnell Hill, Peeple's Valley, and Wilhoit, then down into Prescott. We were riding between Yarnell and Wilhoit and my buddy was leading on his Goldwing. A couple of sportbikes passed us like we were in reverse. We were doing about 55-60 (AKA the posted speed limit, give or take) and these guys flew past at a buck and a quarter, at least. We were about 30 miles from Prescott and we never saw them again.

My Saturday was spent on a day ride and in one area I hit an previously unknown to me lovely curvy road but unfortunately in a rather sad condition. I was tooling a long nicely when I too get passed by knee-dragger flying by despite the bad road surface condition AND blind curves. I sure would like to have the type of radar that they must have on their bikes cause I sure as hell can't look around those blind curves. Still it was a nice sunny day and it was a great ride....332 kms in 6.5 hours of engine time. Very relaxing.
Greetings from rainy Frankfurt.

The one and only time I got my wife to ride the Tail of the Dragon with me, several crotch rockets flew pass us on one of the tight blind curves and scared her sufficiently enough that she said she would never ride the Dragon again. It startled me too, but my anger was far greater than fear. It's a shame that some bikers IQ's is about half the horsepower of their bikes. That is a dangerous combination. If they want to kill themselves that's OK with me, but when they endanger my wife, it's Kick Ass time! http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
