I had my rear wheel off the other day, and I was shocked to see that the tire was worn so much it is near replacement already! I only put it on a year ago! Then I checked my records, and found I already have put 8,000 miles on it! I was amazed that I already put that many on! And that it was so worn so quickly!
I think I hear the darkside calling . . . .
I've never had a rear wheel, or any wheel wear out! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

After my trip from the northeast rally I found that my tire is rather worn, I should be replacing it soon and am thinking of installing a car tire myself this time.

I got lucky. I too thought I didn't have as many miles as I did on my Avon Cobras. Just before heading out to Kalispell last week for the NW Rally (via BC and Alberta mind you)....I realized I already had 10k on them! I figured for sure to have problems, but I had no time to change them, so I just went for it.....two-up and loaded to the hilt.
Although the ride was a little on the rough side and I kept waiting for the inevitable...I made it home without incident with well over 13k on those bad boys! I got that many out of my first set too.... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif! You don't have to wonder what brand of tires I will be purchasing as soon as I'm able... ;)!

Almost 12,000 miles on my rear Cobra. Looks to be about half worn.

But even 13k for the price of a tire is not good, IMHO. I had a 3/4 ton Dodge with 16in ten ply tires that got 40k+ for $100 a piece. And I was a lot harder on them than I am on the bike. I don't get it. I also hear the darkside...yelling it's ashes off at me.
Thanks for your time

And lets hope you never do. I did once and it was no fun. A car stopped dead center in the lane to look at a package store in snow. Another car was on coming and i went between them before i lost controll, and hit the curb hard, blew the tire up and ate that mag wheel.
