My friend and I are planning on riding down to Dallas for the International Motorcycle Show in November. We will be coming from Memphis and I was trying to figure out where to stay. The last time we went through that area we stayed in Greenville and took the two lane around the city. I didn't want to be out that far from the convention center. Where is a nice "safe" area of Dallas that would be good to find a hotel that is a little closer to downtown?

Hey Dan, I'm not real familiar with the Dallas area, but when I do go there, I always stay in Frisco, which is on the north side of Dallas. It is easy access with the main highways close at hand and Frisco has grown considerably and there is a lot of options there. One of my co-workers always stays in Frisco also. She won't stay anywhere else in the area.
I think it's about 20-30 minutes to downtown, but it's a very nice area and like I said, it has very easy access to the highways.

I would check out Mesquite, Garland, Carrolton all of these are close in but not right in the downtown area. All are near major highways.

I try to avoid Dallas, especially south. Now there are some first class hotels in Downtown Dallas with easy public transportation to the convention center. But I would probably check out the motels in Arlington or Grand Prairie along I-30. Its close, traffic is usually better and you don't have all the toll roads like when you head north.. Yeah, Greenvul as they call it, is too far east.

I too would recommend the Arlington/Grand Prairie area. Look into the I30 (E/W) and Hwy 360 (N/S) area. It is a major entertainment district. Lots of Hotels (from cheap to expensive) and good eating choices close by. As Bilmac said traffic to the Dallas convention center is easy (outside of the morning rush hour) and there is a free parking for motorcycles right at the Convention Center.
Contact me if I can help with any questions about the area.
