The Texas summer heat is rough. (Yeah, I know it is hotter other places in the south). I thought of taking off the windshield for my local riding but I don't care for eating any bugs.
I took off the lowers and the increased air feels pretty good. My head may get buffed, but I ain't going far and the air feels pretty good. If your getting too hot, you may want to give it a try. Of course you'll want to throw em back on before you head out for any distance riding.

billmac - I've gone without lowers and just my fairing for awhile now. I plan on putting the lowers back on when I put the inner fairing on and some new signals. I agree the air is nice. I've never quite figured out why so many people complain about buffeting. I always figure if I don't want air blowing on me, I'll take my truck :)

What's the saying, "there is a time and place for everything." Summer time and short rides, equals a need for wind for me.
I also consider my F-350 dually my rainsuit. I am admittedly a fair weather jock.
1badbagger, I like the looks of your ride!!

Moving windshield up to its highest level helps some...I haven't tried riding with no lowers yet.....head got buffeted very severely without them on another cruiser I had once...Also am thinking could get these louvres liek some goldwings have put right into the windshield adn you can open and close them as per the weather...
Might even try removing just one of the two lowers and see if that gives some relief..

Riding is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, also wet when it rains. I love it no matter what just much better in the spring and fall. If taking the lowers off gives you more comfort I say go for it Bill.

You must not be getting any real buffeting if you were you would talk about it.
Mine was so bad it made any time at 75 plus a nightmare your head would shake so bad you could hardly see the road even people I let ride it said the same thing. I think the bike being so long has something to do with it my other bikes I sat closer to the forks and never had anything like I did on the nad the batwing takes care of that now running 80 is a breeze and I still get plenty of air even in the high 90's here

I can ride without my lowers but NOT without my windshield. Ive got larger lowers and still get buffeting alot after 70mph
I guess I don't ride fast enough to get any buffetting - I'd much rather take the two-lane and avoid the slab. The fairing is great though, it feels a lot less like pushing a flat board through the air.

I seldom go over 65 MPH - the lowers are coming off to fall weather get here.

Thats me too. I like to sight see. My windshield is up all the way, and the bottom of the windshield barely sits off the headlamp. I really don't feel much buffeting at 65mph.
Come winter, I have huge lowers and leather covers for my crash bars. Of course winter in Texas passes so quickly you have to pay close attention or you might miss it..
I just added the lower fairing covers in my crash bars. At high speeds, I also tended to get some buffeting, but yes it is too hot to put the engine guard chaps on. At lest the lower fairing covers have a large vent hole in the middle to allow air flow but cutting down on the buffeting. I still feel like I'm getting plenty of air back there though.
