View Full Version : My Vulcan stinks!

Riding home the other night, a skunk decides to run out from the grass on the right hand side of a right hand turn. Fortunately, I was able to swerve and only clipped his nose versus running over his middle and probably having the bike slide out from me. He sprayed, and now my Vulcan smells nasty. I tried simple green, but the smell comes back. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Tom

Bit of seafoam perhaps?
Or..just try riding..you won't smell anything above 20 mph.

As a kid, my dog got "skunked". My Mom washed him in tomato juice. I don't know why or how, but it worked.

We've used tomato juice on the dog, but not a bike, and it helped. I think I'd take it to a power car wash and use the soap setting on it a couple times. Just be careful spraying around the axles and engine.

Urinate all over the bike?

Are you offering this as an uncertain suggestion or is this another one of your highbrow word plays where you are attempting to convey "Oh Piss on it, go ride!" ;)

I think BD was admitting how he cleans his bike. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I was going to say Tomato juice as I've used it many times when I lived in Nova Scotia to get rid of skunk spray from my dog. For your problem, I'd but a couple quarts, pour them into a bucket and sponge it onto your bike where you think it got sprayed, leave it for a couple minutes then rinse it off with water, the wash your bike. I think the acid in Tomato juice cuts the enzymes in the skunk perfume.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll try the Tomato Joice first, then go the commercial product. As to BD's suggestion to piss on it, I have to say that I'm not into that type of thing, but I've heard there are porn sites for that. Whatever floats your boat BD.

there is some acid in tomato juice. I'd be wary of how it will react with the clear coat and chrome.

Tomato juice should do it. Just be sure and get all of the juice off. Not sure what the acid in the juice might do. Otherwise I would just go for a long ride and that should take care of the problem.

I would also agree that the tomato juice could have adverse effects to metal, especially any bare aluminum.

In the country, when someone would get sprayed, they would take a bath in tomatoe juice. the acid in the tomatoe juice nutrilizes the odor. it will also stop a hot pepper from burning your mouth. Be worth a try.

Green, minty mouthwash like Scope works great. Better than tomato juice.

We had an Australian sheppherd. He loved to kill skunks. Tomato juice turned his white coat pink and the Scope turned his white coat pale green. Scope always worked and he smelled a lot better than with the tomato juice. (buy the generic in a big bottle)
