A week or so ago there was a tread on "Oil Cap" problems

I sent the Chuckster a note and ask him if he had a oil cap tool.

He does and I bought one ($10 shipped).

I would post a pic but my camera has taken its last pic.

Soooo, let me try this.

The tool looks to be machined from one piece of metal. It looks like a half washer with a cap on top. On top of the cap is a long nut that fits a 1/2" wrench. The washer fits the slot on the oil cap.

Insert the "washer" in the oil cap slot and use a 1/2" wrench to turn the oil cap.

I can tell you that it works and works well.

Chuckster makes good stuff, thats for sure. I just use a large flat washer that I got a Lowe's. If I lose it, I'm out less than $1. I keep one in the saddle bag, and I'm sure there's a few around my house.

Hey Bill,
Thanks for the post, and to let you and everyone else it's made of aluminum so not to damage the chrome on the oil cap.

Cheers

I use a silver dollar to loosen mine. It seems to fit a bit better than the washer. If I lose it, I'm out exactly a dollar. Just hard to replace a 1921 silver dollar.

You guys using the one off of e-bay - aren't you concerned that someone can come along and either remove the cap or dump something in your oil?

Brian took a 7/8" spade bit, ground off the drill point, and turns it with a small crescent.

My thoughts too, maybe I'm just paranoid.... I'm sure if someone wanted to tinker with our bikes there is a lot more stuff they can cause trouble with.

If you are worried about some one tampering with your oil, maybe you been messin' with the wrong folks. I had that problem for many years, many years ago. But in reallity there are more simple ways to mess with a bike that require carrying less stuff. And if they really want to get you, they will.
Thanks for your time.

I use a gasket scraper, it fits the slot like it's made for it and has a nice handle on the top to twist the cap open.
