The CWI lights have an H3 bulb in them that tends to burn out fairly often. A lot of guys (me included) change these out for sealed beam units. I put in a pair of 35w amber colored sealed beams. They put out plenty of light!
The ones you have now are grounded through the light housing itself, hence only one wire....whereas the sealed beam units will need a separate ground. I just ran the ground wire to the mounting bolt. It's a real simple fix as the sealed beam units are pretty indestructible.

I put 55w H1 bulbs in mine and they made a big difference in the light output.
I used to have 35w sealed beams in them originally.

Ring,
Did you do anything else...like fuses....or did you just change out the 35w H3 bulbs for 55w H1's.....??

I had sealed beams originally, I just switched the light housings with some I found at Princess Auto for $5.00 ea. I didn't change the fuse and its been working for two years now. The original H1 bulbs burned out rather quick , but the replacements are holding up a lot better.

I've had the same lights on mine for 2 years and have never had to replace a bulb.

Yes, I changed everything except the chrome housing. H3 & H1 bulbs are not interchangeable, they will not fit in the same reflector assy.

You can replace the entire light with a sealed beam unit by removing the outer ring from the light housing and removing the inner light housing...the part that holds the H3 bulb. Then insert the sealed beam unit (including an additional wire for ground) and re-attach the housing ring. Easy as pie... ;)!
These are what I used....but I bought them at Napa Auto Parts.
