Is it at all possible to get some addition low-end torque and performance with the addition of a PC5 and a K&N..?

If it's an "easy" $500 fix I'll do it, but if not I'll just be happy and never speak of such blasphemy again! http://s2.images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif

To get more power from a Nomad you must open up the intake and the exhaust and add a fuel controller.

Aye, then I shall never speak of the blasphemy again!

Well for about that kinda dough you can, but not the way you want, as stated.

A lot of guys here do swap out the exhaust and change the intake to add a fuel modual, which the cost is close to you figure.

Thge exhaust change drops about 40 pounds too, The end result for most is a faster more power ful bike that runs on 87 octane and will get 10% more pwoer, the engine runs cooler, and most get a few MPGs better for it.

Are you just cut and dry this and only this, or do you bend any?

If your a new Nomad owner, I'll just say it took me a little while coming from 102 cubic in Yamaha with TONS of low end, to get used the Nomad's......nuiances. I don't think there's anything you can do to the motor to really make it a stump puller. I just don't think Kawasaki designed it that way. It's a great highway cruiser and with that, you loose a little of that arm ripping power. It's there it's just in different places. I had a guy that I ride with who just bought an HD (2003). He insisted his dyna could take my '03 Nomad. At first, I told him that saying your bike is faster than a Nomad is kinda like saying your IQ is higher than that of a styrofoam cup. After that we went stop light to stop light and he lost miserably.

I'm very interested in knowing more, but can't begin to fathom an after market exhaust & computer for around $500...???

Put a Cobra FI2000R or a Doebeck TFI on and do BD's debaffle. It will sound better, run cooler and be a little lighter because of the removal of the baffles. You can do this for about $200. The debaffle is free just a little time on your part.

The Plug & Play Dobeck TFI is ~ $190 from Custom Dynamics and the set of Vance & Hines Duals was $438 from Dennis Kirk. That's the cheapest I've found either.

Got to agree, the DobeckTFI is a no brainer. My bike starts easier, eliminates the cough, idles better, reduces or eliminates pinging on less gas octane, runs cooler, just to name a few things.

Judging by his comments about a PC5, I am guessing he has a 1700 Nomad. BDs debaffle won't help there.

Nope, it's an '08 1600... I have a PC5 on my SV, so that's actually why I said that.

BTW: Is it at all possible to get automatic email alerts when someone replies to a thread that we participate in, or does this forum software not allow it..?

Yeah, the email alerts would be nice. Especially if someone PM's you.

Then you'd want a PCIII, TFI or a Cobra. The PC5 is for bikes that have closed loop systems, IE they use an O2 sensor. If you have a 1600, get chuckster's plate, one of the mentioned fuel processor units and a decent exhaust upgrade. It'll cost about $750 in total.
