Does anyone know who makes a drivers back rest for a 2006 1600 Nomad? I really don't want to spend the bucks for a Mustang seat.

Check out the post by waterrat in this section about 4 posts down from this one.
Also Bak-up and Custom World Int and Utopia all make a drivers rest for the Nomad.
Just do a Goggle search for the above names.

Also, www.grasshopperlimited.com (http://www.grasshopperlimited.com) (Lonnie) from my prior forum for Suzuki Boulevards is currently making a prototype. Before you buy one of the existing pre-fabbed backrests, you may want to wait a couple weeks to check his out before you decide. He makes a great products at a very reasonable price. Quality and craftsmanship is superb...

Almost done with the prototype for the nomad drivers backrest. Just have to modify a couple little things and get the ok from ds06nomad that everything works good with it and then they will be on the market. ds06nomad just sent the prototype back to me to finish it up and i will send it back out to him and we will let you know from there. You will find the topic about this in the general discussions forum on here under driver's backrests from lonnie arriving soon. Thanks.

they're adjustable in the sense that you bend them to the angle you want them Doc

Your right doc they are not adjustable. Hopefully we will be able to make them adjustable soon. But they still help even though they are not adjustable.

The drivers backrests are done. Sorry they are not adjustable yet. We are currently in the process of putting this backrest on our website www.grasshopperlimited.com. (http://www.grasshopperlimited.com.) If anyone is interested let me know.

I have one from Lonnie & Allison at GrasshopperLimited and love it! Sits me up just right and the large backrest gives my lower back support over a wide area of my back. So, it'll fit just about anybody, regardless of your size, weight, height, etc.

I took pix of the install at all levels of disassembly/assembly on my Nomad 1600, so the bike would mock what the backrest would look like on the 1500/1600 Classics as well. Pix are here: http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh296/DS06Nomad/

Bakup makes the best one for the nomads with STOCK seats. It is fully adjustable, 10 minits to install or less, and had just the right amount of "give" so you don't have the thud in your back all the time. On the other hand, CWI makes a nice one, but the bar that goes over the seat to attach it is a pain for most passangers too. Unfortunately Bakup wont work with Mustang seats, which make a delima for me, as I'd like to go to a Mustang, but I don't want to give up my Bakup. If I had a second stock seat, so as not to be seatlress for a while, I'd send mine off and have it repacked with that visco-elastic memory gelfoam stuff.
