I just got around to checking my travel log book for the trip to Cortez and KawANOW rally rides.

From La Vista, NE and back Norma Jean the Nomad Machine (she is all stock) traveled 3027 miles. She was treated to 79.7 gals of gas, all 91 octane. That come to 38 MPG.

She traveled in 30 degree weather, 100 degree weather, she was hit by rain and hail. She was blasted by sand and high winds. And, there is not a bug left in KS that did not crest her body!!

She traveled solo as well as 19 other Nomad riders. She also traveled 300 miles and camped with a HD Dan, a friend she made along the way (and that is what it's all about)

I rode 1782.3 miles on the Cortez trip, used 42.25 gallons of fuel for 42.18 MPG. My best MPG was 48.32 between Pinetop AZ and Globe AZ on the return trip and my worst was 35.08 from St. Johns AZ to Pinetop AZ on the previous day, mostly due to about a 30 MPH headwind.

I didn't keep track on the way there or a couple of the rides. On the Million Dollar loop I was doing close to 46 for the ride. On the way home, the first 3 tanks were 47, 48 and then a high of 52 mpg. Never had that good of gas mileage on a tank.

That's because you weren't traveling very fast. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I started to ck MPG/tank but I found that filling the tank all the way "up" depended on the pump speed. If I can make the "flow" slow I can put about 1/2 a gal more in the tank. But, if i can not slow down the flow, I get to much splash if I try to "top it off".

My MPG for the trip were no doubt affected by the fact that on the way home I jumped on I-70 and then I-80 and pushed my speed up to 80 MPH in a head wind. I had to beat those T-storms home!!

Must have been a hair slower than you on the return home. But, who was the last one to pull into the rally?????????? http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

I went about 1600 miles, got around 41 mpg, ate a whole bunch of restuarant food, spent a ton of money, took a slew of pictures, covered gobs of miles, talked for hours...or maybe minutes anyway, and had one hell of a good time!

(I know, I know, I need to chill out and not be so anal about keeping such detailed info.)

CJ,

I guess I wasn't. The tank for 52 mpg I was in stop and go traffic of Colorado Springs.
