That is aways a bad thing around here in southern ohio and wv the winter was hard so the snow plows do a lot of damange they just cold patch to fix them then it all comes out and double the trouble now you have a hole with a lot of loose black top around it.

This is an instance where he should have been following farther back and he might have seen the pothole in time. Potholes are one reason I don't care about riding at night. I am always afraid I am going to hit one and either wreck or have damage to my front tire or wheel.

Thanks for the reminder. This time of year there seems to be a lot of pot holes out there.

I nearly hit one like that in NY outside Binghamton on the interstate and they go really fast out that way. it was in with the dotted line the exact same size as a dot between the passing lane and the driving lane.
I could see road mesh in it and prayed the trailer tire would miss as I was pulling in from the passing lane to the driving lane!
It was big enough to swallow a car tire on anything too! No less than 18 inches deep!
The trailer was behind the Nomad!
Another time and place, at at night, at a stop to enter a 50 mph road in NH I placed my foot down into a bottomless pit and over we went. At least I was stopped for that one.

Not to be too critical because I don't always follow my own advice but farther back and in line with the tires of the vehicle in front. That way if they swerve, you know something is there.

In 1978 I was riding with a friend of mine on a heavily traveled road near a river that it was not uncommon to have large pot holes develop overnight. Anyway, it was late in the day and the sun was going down and I hit a pothole..............
The hole was about a foot deep and probably about 2 feet wide. The front wheel stayed in the hole and I kept going and I was thrown across an intersection. I landed on my head and shoulder, breaking my collar bone and ripped the face shield off my full face helmet and putting scratches in the helmet about an eighth of an inch deep in the helmet. Road rash, ripped my knee open was the rest of the damage with the exception of arthritis that two yrs ago caused me to have knee surgery.
I was lucky to not have collided with another vehicle or object.
Now if I was still living in New York City, where this accident happened, I probably wouldn't have a motorcycle because the traffic and road conditions don't get much worse then that part of the country.
(It's really weird to pass someone in the air without a motorcycle under you as I did pass my friend that was riding the left side of the lane).
PS. I went to take a picture of the pothole in the late morning of the next day and it was filled. Cops at the scene but didn't make a report. They just waited till the ambulance got there and left.

Thank goodness we don't have them like that around here. However, in Denver, they had a pothole that took out the tires and rims of 8 cars in a row. It was full of water from the rain and no one saw it.

8-19-74 5:00 PM, hit a pot hole with my Honda went over the bars. I remember looking down at the speedometer. Broke nothing but had a ton of road rash on left arm, shoulder and beer belly. Picked the bike up road back to the house. Promptly freaked out the wife. Wife went into labor the next AM, said it was my fault. I sure hope so, if not somebody owes me a ton of money for raising his kid.
