Decided to do a little fabricating today. Made the piece to go between the motor and the V&H bagger exhaust on left side. I also made a foot guard for the right floorboard. I kept getting my soles of my boots in to my pipes on the '01 and leaving a black mark. This way no mark and I have a heel stop for the board. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

That is cool, nice work.

I do have the V&H and also the WOC fairing with the new flip windshield. Is that the same as you have? If it is how do find the "flip"?

I got my windshield from Clearview. I needed a taller windshield than WOC offered at the time. Is yours a WOC? I love the flip, it really moves the air up and over me.

How did you attach the heel rest? I made one over the winter out of aluminum that I polished up. I attached it with JB Weld, but they fell off after a few rides.

Is there a magic potion out there to clean off the residue from boots without scratching the pipes?

Speedbyu, can you give me a link or model# or something for the Clearview. Yes I love the flip, WOC is selling them for $50 and they are made by Slipstreamer.

Papalode, you can try WD40 and 000 steel wool if it's very bad and cooked on. Just don't rub too hard and it should not scratch with the WD on.

Blue Job removes just about anything that's burned onto your exhaust. It's available at most MC shops.

"Goof Off" works on about anything, although some of those pipe marks can be a bitch."

Thanks Jim, that's a new one for me and I will have to try it.

Although I will be careful not to walk right into a shop and ask for a Blue-Job. http://s2.images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif ;)

I think the boot guard mod is a great idea. Did you use the bolts under the boards to attach it speedbyuh?

I have used oven cleaner before with good results.

You want to do this on cold pipes. That's what Cobra recommends to remove cooked on boot, etc., from their pipes.

hey "hammer", just what is this "FLIP" you speak about. A vent in the windshield?

Rickyboy; I believe he was referring to the curvature at the top of the shield. There is a slight bend to it at the top to "flip" the wind up higher over the shield.

First thanks again everybody.
Hammer here is the link to Clearview. http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=11

I had to use a Harley shield and used a belt sander to cut the bottom to fit my fairing, it is shaped different. Heated a screw driver and used it to make new holes and bolted it up. The Slipstreamer shields might be a better deal if they come tall enough. I looked on WOC site and did not see them. Did you call them? Clearview does have a "seconds" list that might have a slight mar somewhere on the shield, but it will tell you where and they are cheaper.

Yes I used the 2 mounting bolts on the boards that mount it to the bike for the guard
.
The "flip" on the top of the shield is curved just enough that it pushes the air more up than back. This helps create a calm pocket of air for the rider. I look just about an 1 1/2 over my shield and the air just gently moves my hair around instead of a steady blast.

Thanks Speedbyu ( love the handle )

I think I got an e-mail back from them when I asked for options to the originals they first used. The new ones are moulded Acrylic so they mount easier than the flat ones and stand up more so they add a little height anyway. They offer it in both clear and smoked and I thought I would get a smoked to try or even as a backup. WOC also now offers a KlockWerks flip for their fairings. More $'s.

I am 5' 10" (5"10 + 1/2" after the back surgery) and I can just see over the top of the 10". With the flip, it will throw the air up higher and over top of the helmet.

Thanks for the info. on the HD alternative. I could do the work to get the fit so that's now an option and I appreciate that.

Thanks again everybody for the feedback. I sent Chuckster131 a picture too, so don't be surprised if he doesn't make a few. I told him I wanted royalties. LOL Beer, food, etc.......

Bill: what is the boot guard make out of. my brother made one out of some aluminum but its just a stalk sticking up vertical with a ball on the end. It keeps his boot from hitting the pipes. he bolted it to the floorboard. I asked about these a couple yrs ago since I do hit the pipes with my boots. Everybody laughed then but now its in vogue. if anybody mass produces these I think making them out of aluminum(polished) would be best. 3-4 little bolts to the floor board and you have it. let me know. :-)

Here is a rough diagram of what I did. Just used some scrap flat sheet metal I had laying around and painted it flat black. Most of my bike is flat black and I think it looks good. I don't need all the extra chrome to polish. LOL

If somebody mass produces it thats cool, just remember little 'ol me and maybe some royalties if they sell big. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif ;)
