Hello all......went to the local kawa dealer today to pick up a few parts and i got a bit of a shock when the bill reached my hands.
41$ for one of the brushed alluminum strips on the saddlebag door........one strip.
3$ for cam chain tensioner extenders........now there is a deal.
49$ for a set of rear brake pads......
needless to say i didn't get the strip.
a big thank you to mac, the nomad specialist who i asked quite a few questions on swing arm removal and service and also extender instalation ........it's great to take these bikes apart to serviced them the way you want them serviced.
it all sounds complicated before you start but once you get going it's kind of fun.......
also my extenders were out of travel at 23000 miles......glad i checked.........................another few nights and i'm ready.....

Nothing like a little oil and dirt on your hands to assure yourself that the work is done and done right. Good job.

i never buy my parts from the local dealer. SOOOO expensive. find the part and search online.
A rock flew out of a landscape trailer just a couple weeks after I got my vulcan 750 a few years back, hit it dead square, shot me and the bike up in the air. luckily I landed on 2 wheels. the front rim was taco'd where it hit the rock. I limped it to the dealer, he wanted 750 bucks for a new rim, I about fell over. ebay 65 bucks and the cost to remount and I was good to go!

You wonder how they come up with some of the prices for these parts. $41.00 for a peice of trim it ludicrious. I thought the same thing about the extenders, I think mine were about $7.00 a pair.
You got a fair price on the brake pads, here they are about $55.00 a set. Thats why I do my own work, if I had to send it in for service I couldn't afford to have it.

It's nice to support local dealers, but at prices like that, a person has no choice but to look at other sources such as the internet. Still can't believe the price of that trim!

crapper, 'Ave yee a run to Canadian Tire, and grab a roll of some other trim, as there are more choices than on gadjets page. Meaure how wide the gap on the bag doors are first.

If and When i paint those gaps will either go away or get something else. Yeah that trim is pricey for what it is.

Mine are good right now, but one had it's ends lifting, which i fixed with 3-M clear emblem sealer/glue.

No thanks needed really, this is just what i do..

You say you got the cam chain extenders at the dealer? I was not aware these were Kaw parts as I thought only Chuckster made them.

Do you have a part number you care to share?

James, I think the part is available only in Canada for individuals, and for the US the dealers install them or you buy from "Chuckster" and install yourself if I understand correctly. Could be wrong there's always a first

Mac you are too modest.

Leadbelly if and when I need the extenders one of you Canadian friends my pick up some for me. At that price you can't beat it. Not sure what Chuckster charges for them.

They are a dealer item in Canada. In the USA, you get to pay the dealer to replace the cam chains. Or you can buy the extenders from Joe (Chuckster) and extend the tensioners yourself.

Mac +1

I'm lucky enough to have had work done by MAC. I'd rather have him work on my bike and hand him a wrench then a dealer charge me for work that I can do as well as some of these so called techs. MAC doesn't charge $75 an hour and you know it's getting done right. Confidence in MAC's work is worth every penny. (In addition when he does work on my bike, it's a good reason to go see him and Gwyn).

Exhaust, intake, wired in TFI etc.

Swingarm, driveshaft service, check cam chain extenders etc., soon.
