You will have to go to []photobucket.com[/url] and establish a free account there. Then you can upload your pictures there. Then you can post the pictures here using the photobucket site. Been so long since I posted pictures I can't even remember it all. I just know you have to start with photobucket and then resize the pictures at photobucket.

The fairing is going to look great. I just bought a used Premeux fairing that I will be picking up next weekend. My shop is messier than yours right now so I will follow your note to self and clean mine before I take pics of the bike with the fairing .... then again maybe I will just take the pics outside http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I'll be just under $1400 for everything so far
fairing
paint
harley chrome windshield trim
Tbags 3 compartment windshield pouch
hogtenna antenna mounts inside fairing
4 polk audio DB521 speakers marine cetified and 93db too
head unit I'm going with a pyle 3.5 inch touch screen with built in gps
marine mount enclosure
fairing wind deflectors

I have ridden the bike with the fairing mounted and it is a very nice upgrade over the stock
windshield at highway speed it seems to pull you forward and takes all the pressure of your arms

Does anyone have any ideas for a quick disconnect for the power connection from the bike so I can remove the fairing from the bike easily?

Go look in the towing section at your local Autozone/O'Reilly/Pep Boys store. You can find trailer connectors in several different configurations, depending on how many pins you need and they are usually weatherproof.

I found a male and female connector at radio shack. They had 2,4,6 and 12 pin connectors. They need to be soldered. 4 bucks each so 8 bucks total. I am using the 4 pin. constant power as well as switched plus the ground.

Welcome to the "Nomad BatWing Fairing Brigade". That'll look really sharp when you get it done. I use a 9 pin, and a 4 pin connector on my fairing. Got them at Radioshack.

One question I have is how do you physically mount the radio in the fairing? Modern radios have a mounting frame that the receiver unit slips into and it locks. I would assume some sort of external apparatus will have to be fabricated to support the weight of the unit, or is the weight supported by the fiberglass?

Scott, I don't know about the other fairings, but the Premeux has a slot molded into the inner fairing that a "single din" radio just slips into. You fit the sleeve of the radio into the slot (just does fit), then slip the receiver into the sleeve. Perfect fit, and no mods needed. Doesn't vibrate or flop around, and is as solid as being mounted in a car. The only mod needed is to drill a hole in the back for the wires to exit. After you get the wires through the hole, just silicone up the hole, and with a cover, all is water tight.

This one has a 3x8 inch cut out for use with a marine mounting kit which has the box the the radio mounts in and the cover there are many different type to be found

After installing my splash guard I didn't like the way the radio mounted it was loose so I used gas tank strap and came from the top bolts that mount the fairing to the bike and ran it up to the radio on each side, it is very solid now.

+1 I don't think there's a way to do it on ebay. Just add the fairing to your cart, and when you go to check out, there is a box to type in a promo code or coupon. Enter the coupon there, and it should bring the price down to $315.

Well the red paint was late shipping so no fairing till Tues now. But was able to find a brand new rider 2 gps so that was cool. Now to pick an Alpine head unit they also has a very small 45 rms watt amp that plugs right into the head unit no power wires to mess with. Put my windshield back on for a ride to today and I'll have to say once you go Bat you'll never go back. I was in a Victory dealer and sat on one of the tour somethings the bagger looking one and I really like the handlebars on it your hands are in a much more natural position might have to explore that option.

Can somebody COMMENT
on the different handling characteristics of before and after the Fairing. Vulcans have always been know to be well handling, yet fork mounted fairings for sure add weight to the steering. It's got to have a heavier feel. ( I know we didn't buy our Nomads to be Sport Bikes). I once had a GL1200 Goldwing, frame mounted fairing and I liked it. I also hear the the HD Street Glide (frame mounted fairing) have a better steering feel than the Ultra?

skiman
04-11-2010, 08:07 AM
Mine is much more stable at highway speed might be the extra down force at 75 not sure but it is rock solid and at low speed I can't tell any difference

phred
04-11-2010, 08:29 AM
I took mine for quick spin with the fairing mounted. It felt about the same, handling wise, but I never got over 60mph.

radco
04-11-2010, 08:40 AM
Good to hear that handling is not a issue,, I find the Nomad slow handling at parking lot speeds, Im not big. even though Im 220lbs at 6ft 3.. Sounds big but Im a slim version http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif. Man cannt wait to get my fairing..Now I have to get it painted soon ::).. I hold off on food and beer for awhile http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif well Ill hold off on Food anyway ::)

radco
04-11-2010, 11:15 AM
Yes it is,, BUT when I get on the 1100 Honda it really shows the difference LOL. I can turn on a dime with that bike :).. BUT for the long haul the Nomad is the bike to have,, and even hopping around the Nomad just is a more comfortable bike..
With the fairing it will be better, I will add the Marine Radio w.CD/MP3 and Weather Band.. Decided the Weather Band would be a bonus since I long haul alot..

I paid $500 for my paint job, that includes the scan and supply of paint as well as all the labour to prep and shoot (2 tone, pin stripe and clear coat). It has turned out excellent, no dust, perfect colour match and smooth as glass. A little steep, but we tend to have to pay more in Canada than our neighbours to the south :'(

No, not make them one piece, but use your design. You talked about slotting the brackets like the oem windshield brackets, right? Is he going to start making his brackets like that?
Im not sure if he is.. BUT I will be making a set out of some sheet aluminum to try, I will send him a set if they help alot.. I can make a set and send them to you as well if I have ebough metal.. I can also make another template of them, The Fairing I will be getting will not have the mounting flang holes drilled. I will mount brackets to the bike,, fit the fairing over the to where I want,,Mark holes and drill,,that way I can set the fairing to the height I want.. and I may put slotted hole in the fairing for tweaking front to back if needed and up and down on the brackets. ALSO I am going to cut a plate for the inside of the inner where the bolts go through.. IE: 1 Large washer vs 2 small fender washers..... so the load should be spread better IMO....

phred
04-20-2010, 04:20 PM
Alex said the same to me, he's not going to drill holes in the fairing to attach the mounting brackets, but, like you said, allow me to position the fairing how I want it, and then drill the holes.

I bought some bigger fender washers to help spread out the load, but a metal backer inside would be a better idea.

He hasn't gotten back with me since I spoke with him this morning, so I don't know when a replacement will be sent my way. Are you getting a whole new fairing, or just the inner? Let me know when you get it and how it looks (and measures!).

Ill update as I go..Then to make up a radio mount cross bar.. I cannt wait to ride with the fairing on :) Like a kid in a candy store LOL..Just got the windshield 3 bag pouch off e bay
45$ looks nice... You also keep us updated,, I still think we got a GREAT deal.. There was NO way I could lay out 1400$ on the fairing alone, This one came out of my floor budget for 1 BR,, That room is on hold LOL.

Here's what you need. It's the same thing I bought and can't use because my opening is a standard 1-din size. I just went out and measured mine, it will fit just right in a 3.5" x 8.5" opening.

This is a good point. I was debating whether to do some finish sanding before paint. Now I know I will. I may also spray it with black primer, since I'm getting it painted black.

Basically, the Reckless fairings are a decent product. An extremely good value for the money. I think he just needs to work on his marketing some. He's probably a good technical guy, but not a good business man.

It's not uncommon. Try finding stuff on Tsukayu's website. Talk about a jumbled up mess. Alex has a good website, it just needs more descriptive content.

I'm going to put the trim on but mine had about a 1/2 -3/4'' of the inside of the outer shell showing on the very outer edge the rough inside showing I wish I would have drilled all my holes before paint even with a sharp bit the paint chipped off I can fix it but had I completely drilled all the holes before hand it would have saved time and heartache I took the foam off the windshield and will replace it with one thin piece on the outer and I have the windshield bags on the inner so it will close up the gap

I guess what I'm saying is it is way better to have the fairing just like you want it before paint so when it comes back you just install your stuff and bolt it on instead of trying to do it all on the painted fairing and risking chipping the paint

the kenwood is plenty loud with no amp to get all the tickets I dare. now waiting for the radio box and to run the power. I have a hogtenna but when I hook the power to it all I get is static unhooked it seem to work fine but I think an antenna on the back of the bike will ordered soon.

Not sure how the relocation kit would work on a Nomad.

I may solo my bike so I need to look for one that will work with that set up or the backrest and rack
I like the solo look but the backrest makes such a good helmet holder

Thanks it was frustrating at times but now that it's done it was worth it.
today I added a micro switch in the left light switch to mute the radio so small you can hardly see it.
next I think I'll buy an extra remote to take apart and try to wire up switches for the volume control but that's the fun part of it making it your own.

I didnt use Color Rite but from what I hear it is a GREAT Paint but BIG $$$.. The paint on my fairing is Dupont, A Painter did it.. Better price, My trunk a bud and I painted,, Went to a Local Auto Part/Paint store, They shot the bike with a Paint scanner, Mixeds it right. way better price the Color Right,Plus with less cost any mistakes were cheap to fix.......Just my 2 cents
