In my quest for somewhere to put my garage door opener I looked at several options. I didn’t want to tear apart the opener and I couldn’t find a wind shield bag that fit the Nomad that I liked so I looked at tank bibs. I posed the question here about bibs

http://kawanow.proboards77.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1204400981&page=1

And J J pointed me in the direction of P&H Customs http://phcustoms.com/default.aspx

I spoke with Delinda by email several times and I found her to be extremely helpful. I explained what I wanted and the dimensions of my garage door opener. I wanted another pocket to be able to use. I also found out they could do different color stitching. I also wanted to stay away from leather since I have problems in the past with leather when it got soaked. This is what I got in the mail yesterday.

I am very please with the quality, look, and getting what I was looking for. The price was also very reasonable (I wouldn’t say cheap because it would make the product sound……uh, well....cheap).

Looks great. Getting exactly what you want always feels good. I especially like the colored stitching. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Looks great i also have been talking to them about shipping to the UK for the tank bib and saddlebag chaps, i like the idea of the coloured stiching.

The red stiching sets it apart really nice from the black, it matches the bike very well. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I'm just afraid the tank bib will eventually buff the finish off the tank. I've had that happen over the years with other bikes. sort of like a bra on a car. After awhile you can't take it off because it looks like sh*t underneath it... JMO

So i suppose that could happen with the saddlebag chaps as well then? Do they not put felt on the back to protect the paint?

Mustang does put soft felt underneath and makes a quality tank bib. Anybody still looking for a windshield bag I bought ironhorse brand leather bag out of Dennis Kirk and it bolts right up no mods needed. Thats where I keep my garage door opener.

I used Gadget's idea, and mounted a button switch on the front of the left cover that activates the garage door opener that I mounted inside the cover. Works excellent and is out of sight.

Even with felt on back I think it would still screwup the paint after a while. When you wash the bike it would stay wet under the bib or chaps. Unless you want to take them off each time you washed it. Who the he11 wants to do that.

I've never had water touch my bike? Only in a rain storm once in two years. I couldn't stand to think of letting it get dirty enough to "wash" it TC.!! I'm still anal over my Nomad! Every weekend it gets detailed with all the fixins! It gets dusted by 4 different sized dusting brushes and wiped down with distilled water and then a touch up waxing.

As you said I'd hate to see that beautiful metal flaked green service get buffed by a leather chap. Too bad because those chaps do look classy!!

Geezus BD, now I know why your wife doesn't want to get on the Nomad anymore, she sees it as your Mistress ;)
Thats some tender loving care you give that bike http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

B&G: Who did your studs on the stock sissy bar pad?? Looks good and matches the Mustang stuff.

Hey, Doc. I did them myself. That is a stock seat. I bought about six bags of studs from a local Tandy Leather and went to work. Took me about 3-4 hrs to do everything. No special skills or tools needed. I get a lot of good comments from the guys I ride with.

Hey Pick 187,
Trying to find a place for that garage door opener?? Have a look on one of Gadget's pages where he tells you how to install one in a side cover with a simple button to open the door. I did my 06 and it's the greatest !!... Drive up and push the button on the side cover and BINGO !! drive on in.

Hey Doc, he said no special tools. I know others that have done this and I think they remove the seats cover. You push the stud thru and bend the tabs over and reinstall the cover on the seat with a staple gun. Unless he has another trick, this is the method. Dave

Doc,
Dave is right and that is the way I did it.

I took the seats off the bike. But I didn't take the seat cover completely off, just enough to flip the sides up so I could bend the tangs together. I think it took less than $20.00 total for the studs, and I have about half a bag left over. The tangs on the studs will puncture the vinyl fairly easy so you can bend them over on the inside. Also, I used an air stapler to staple the vinyl back under the seat. You could also use upholstery tacks too.

If you tried to punch the tangs through leather, you would probably need an exacto knife (or a special made tool) to pre-punch the tang holes.

I just spaced the studs about an inch apart (by eye) and followed the stitching around the seats and backrest. I followed the stitching up across the top of the big seat also, in case I want to take the stuff off behind it. It all turned out pretty good. BnG
