I wanted to share my excitement. Several things have led up to my wife wanting to learn to ride (especially a 'peppy' run to Carlos two weekends ago, but that's another story) In any case a wonderful member of our group invited my wife Kimberley over to learn to ride last Sunday. I wasn't allowed to speak or provide pointers, but I was allowed to watch, encourage and take pictures.
I can't brag enough about how well Kimberley did. The bike had a dead battery and she had to keep the revs up, but she took to it like a duck to water. Pulled her feet up immediately and putted up and down the street and up and down a hill, even turned and backed the bike herself. Got up to second gear with no problems and NEVER let the bike die.

Long story short, we are taking delivery of a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom next week. http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/2006/Vulcan900/blue_s.jpg
This will be my wife's bike and she is very excited. She knows she HAS to take the course and will, but I'm sure the bike will accumulate several miles putting up and down the street like this. Again, before the flak, let me assure you that I know this is 'cart before the horse' but my wife is extremely strong willed and I have to work with what I have.

So share in the enthusiasm and remember back when you learned - you'll recognize the smile I'm sure!

I would love to have a wife that rode. Women that ride bikes double in sex appeal automatically :)

You'll have to get her the shirt I saw at a VROC rally that said, "Does this bike make my butt look big?"

However, the wife I have is such a crappy driver, that it would scare the hell out of me, so I don't encourage it. She's the type that drifts lanes and doesn't see anything but the road in front of her. She'd be dead for sure.

I plan on keeping her, so I don't think I'll have a wife that rides. I'm jealous though.

Hey Mike...that's awesome bud!!! Tell Kimberley congrats again and to be safe out there...even in the neighborhood!!! That's usually when people pay the least of attention!!! When/Where is she planning on taking the class? Ginger was looking into taking it and they have it over here at Ft. Bend....so all depending on the time frame, maybe they can take it at the same time. Either way...that's awesome and I know she's excited!! Congrats again to both of you!!!!

Now the fun part.... Making your Nad a Solo!!! ;o) LOL!

My wife use to ride years ago with me when you seen very few (girls) on bikes. She said she is content to be a passenger until the other day she said about getting her permit ( i knew it was coming when I seen her sitting on the 800) I told her I keep the 800 for her she said no way I'm going to get a new one. Time will tell.

Mike, getting her the bike and her learning how to do certain things isn't putting the cart before the horse it's good to do some practice prior to taking the course....just as long as she isn't riding on down the road . I know students that have trucked their bikes to a parking lot and practiced for several hours then loaded back in the truck and head on home.
I've tried to get my wife to learn. She seems to be happy sitting shotgun.

congrats to her.

Big congrats to Kimberly. My wife insists she will never ride herself and is happy as all get out when she rides with me so I guess it will stay that way. Happy for the 2 of you though. Ride safe.

Congrats to you Kimberley!! My wife is learning as well on a Kawi 800 Classic. She is doing well but hasnt got past the "nervous jitters" yet. We have all experienced those and they will pass away with time. There will be days after the jitters that you will feel confident, as well as days you will feel jittery again. But soon after that,,,, ITS ALL GOOD BABY!

Congrats to you also Mike for being able to watch her ride and keep your mouth shut. LOL If it will make you feel better,,heres a pic of a solo Nomad for ya!

Congratulations Mike and Kimberley!

And to all of you out there who have wives who will ride with you, count your blessings.

My wife doesn't object to my riding (although she didn't want me to get another one) but she will not ride.

Ya'll will really enjoy. We have made so many trips since I ride my own (doubles your packing space!). When we stop for gas, eat or the night etc we have so much to share...did you see, did you notice, how about that car that tried to cut you off etc......A couple that rides with us, she rides pillion...when we stop me, hubbie and him all are saying the same...did you see etc and her because your view is limited on pillion is always saying...what I didn't see that...where? when?.....Guess what she is taking the safety class now and getting her own bike...said she is tired of missing out.

Oh BTW my hubbie taught me the basics and we went to Illinois and picked me up a used 500cc Honda silver wing. I drove the silver wing back to Tennessee without an m/c license. I was already booked for the m/c safety class but unable to catch class before time to go get bike. Only thing I recommend make double sure she knows to stay off that front brake at low parking lot speeds. I dumped the silver wing a couple of times...didn't understand why I was dumping it until I took the class a few weeks later. :-/

That's awesome! There's just something about a woman though that can talk bike that gets my engine revved up.
