View Full Version : March 29 Kawanow meetup - South Hill VA
Ok you mid-Atlantic riders.
I've been looking at maps and thinking (shut up BD..you too SWB).
Trying to get an idea of where members are, and especially active members on the site, and trying to figure out where we all might meet that could be say <3.5 hrs to ride or somewhere thereabouts.
We have several active members in the Virginia and NC area and one or two in SC (if I have missed you, I apologize and please speak up). You dont have to post on here often either.....I was looking at the membership list and there are many members in these 2-3 states.
Keeping in mind that most will probably have to do some significant "superslab" time, so I think its important to be near a major highway. Also, its just hard to make it "fair" or "equal" for everyone....a few are going to have to make a significantly longer ride no matter where the location.
So here's where I am going to start the proposed site bidding......South Hill, Virginia. Not real great for the guys in SC, but maybe they can make it or have a ride with the GA folks.
What do you guys think?? Throw out some other suggestions and we can decide on a place..then put some potential dates out there.

Sounds good to me. How about Memorial Day weekend? I know that's Rolling Thunder weekend, but for those who aren't going......I'll look at some other dates as well.
It doesn't look like I'll be able to join my Southern Cruisers group in Maggie Valley. They're heading over on Friday and I can't leave until Saturday. They'll be out playing while I'm trying to get there.
Todd,
Count me in. South Hill works for me. Not sure about Memorial Day weekend though. Will need to check with my bride once you get some kind of consensus. Even though it's a one-day ride, I may campout depending on where we end up. Thanks for organizing.

I may be interested in joining you guys. I have friends in Richmond VA visit them pretty often in the cage. I'll mention it to my wife.
I 95 makes life easy for some.
BTW. Where abouts is Trip Located?
I am also assuming the Black bikes would get there sooner.
How far is South Hill from Richmond?

Trip lives in Lindale, Texas.
97.6 miles from Richmond to South Hill (on the south side of Norfolk.)
Everyone is welcome...Trip is in Lindale, Tx...I think he should ride over for sure...no more than 16-17hrs....TRIPSTER????
South Hill is about an hour to 1 1/2 south of Richmond...I-95S to I-85S
THAT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE PLACE FOLKS.....THROW OUT SOME OTHER IDEAS!!!!!

Todd,
Just a little too far for a one day ride from the Atlanta, Ga area. It would be about 600 miles and 8 or 9 hours one way. Sure would like to though.
I understand...maybe you guys can get one up down that way somewhere??

South Hill puts me in the same time slot as Bob in Fayetteville Ga. I like the concept though.
That would be a haul for Trip.
Thanks for the info Bob.

South Hill, Va isn't a bad ride for me coming up out of Columbia and I'd be interested in further info.
Have a suggestion of Zebulon, NC. Near Raleigh, I-95, I-40 and is the home of Scootworks. Might be able to coordinate with Scootworks on some sort of mini rally/event. They've had both spring and fall bikefest/rallies in 05 & 06. Didn't see anything for 07. We might be the catalyst for a summer/fall 08 rally.
Other suggestion would be in Western NC/ Eastern TN, might make it more appealing to some of our more southern riders.

Todd, South Hill sounds fine to me. I can do most any time right now except for Easter weekend. I'll be flying out to NYC on March 23. A Saturday works best for me.
Hey everyone, what about the Asheville area or even Winston Salem? Beautiful roads and mountains. I was thinking if people could make it to Black Mountain. I-40 is right there at state road 9 and that goes through the mountains to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. It would be an awesome ride with a lot to see. Just trying to throw out more ideas!

South Hill sounds like a plan. Are we talking about meeting in the next couple of months? I can pretty much ride any Saturday from now until May 6th.
I am thinking end of March first of April kinda thing.....................................

Also a long haul for me....758 miles/11 + hours but would have loved too.
Hey TN/GA/KY guys maybe we can figure a middle west portion of eastern region one day meet sometime? Might even get some guys from middle east portion of central region ie AR, MO etc.

South Hill sounds like a weiner, er winner to me. :)
This is kinda what I am thinking...........
March 29, in South Hill, VA with a rain/cold date the next Saturday, April 5. These are Saturdays of course, I think if some want to, they may even be able to spend a night there or somewhere on the road and make a weekend out of it if they have to travel far, and ride home on Sunday. May even try to post on the VROC site too to get some more members at the meet and here on our site.
I like the idea of western NC, Winston Salem and also of Zebulon.......Scootworks is really a very small showroom and Zebulon is even a smaller little town....I really would have to say that you might be a little disappointed if you drove a long long way to see their showroom...Great place, dont get me wrong..they are just set up for the online business.
Western NC is good too....maybe we can do another one sometime in that part of the state to bring in ga, tn, etc.

South Hill, Va is too far for me as well. Plus weather is too iffy Mar-Apr. Took ride into SC last year mid-Apr, was 34 degrees day we left. Never do that again!
Sounds like fun though.
If anyone wants to plan same type of get together in W TN or W NC, I'm in. Just think "WARM," like late Apr or May
Here's a suggestion.....Robbinsville, NC, less than 30 minutes to DragonTail and lots of other great roads.
Robbinsville sounds like a good location for that area and the folks around there.....would be about 3 to 3.5 hours for me...but if someone wants to take the reigns and set one up for the folks in that area I will probably try to make it if my schedule allows.
South Hill, March 29 works for me! Following weekend i am planning a trip to Natchez Trace depending on weather. Buck
Most that have replied to emails and this are from VA and NC....with a couple exceptions.. There is just no way to put it where everyone will be the same riding time. I hope we can have others in the future but I will throw one more option out there and then try to get this together......4-5 can make South Hill VA.......
What about the Petersburg/Richmond area ???

Depending on when, I like Robbinsville. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif
Sounds like we can do this one in South Hill, I hope others arrange some more meetups in other areas.
BUT, so far the riders that can do this are:
Kawgirl
Buck
dui546
Todd
Anyone else wanna join us....I have gotten several "maybes" so speak up and join in.........I will research a place to eat up there.
<marquee>OK, LET'S HERE IF THIS IS STILL ON FOR YOU ALL THAT PLANNED TO GO. </marquee>
I have been summoned to a wedding (business partner kinda thing for my wife's work) on Saturday, but, I think I can get out of it, or if you guys wanna do Sunday. Supposed to be around 60 I think.
What a shame that it has been in the mid 70's the past few days and now is gonna cool off

Looks like it's a no go. I for one will not be making this ride. Too much time away this week.
:'( :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
OK..didn't work out this time....let's try to find another date before the Rally to get together.
Sorry it didn't work out....its tough to coordinate.
40 degrees and drizzle this morning...hmm...some things don't work out for a reason I guess
Third time will be the charm Todd.......
Dang. that means we need to schedule the 2nd pretty fast so it can fail too .. LOL
