Does anyone have some short rides planned for 2010? I told Vickie we need to be thinking of where we can go. It's so hard to plan around work but some short weekend rides may work out. Let me know what you come up with. I have always wanted to do the fall leaf changes in the smokies but can never catch it at the right time. The coast (Southern Texas, Florida or Alabama maybe even a Georgia) ride may work out. Let me know what you want to do and I'll try to plan around uncle sam.
Thanks,

Bobby, Where are you located in MS?
Well, Bobby weekend rides are a little different for me since I'm in Texas and you're in Mississippi....but I find a weekend trip to OK and AR to be great. Also a trip to New Orleans is a great weekend trip, but I've only done that one by cage....would like to do it by moto some day. We could all barge in on Mitch and Darlene... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Sounds like a plan. We could always hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos.

Jamie, Are rooms at the casinos pretty reasonable?

Now, I'm pretty sure they won't let you ride a motorcycle around in a casino. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

I'm in Terry about 15 miles south of Jackson. Casionos are about 100 up on weekends and you would be lucky to get a room. During the week they are not too bad maybe 75. There are lots of other hotels in the area that would be cheaper. A couple of the casinos let the bikes park by the door or have a designated MC parking area nder cover in the parking garage. I usually stay at the military base or Vickie get's free rooms now and then from using her card in the machines. I would stay away from them if she didn't like to play.

Y'all would know more about casinos than I would. I only go to one for the buffets.

Let's plan a casino ride on the coast. I might could actually make that ride. The beaches on 90 highway is a good no stressed ride from Lousiana to Florida. Maybe we can meet up in Gulfport or Biloxi. Gamble at your own Risk. Same if you go north to Tunica. Gamble at your owm risk. Lots of flat wide open land to ride at Tunica but you can gamble. There is also the mini grand canyon in south MS. Been there once.

Jamie,
Usually the first weekend of any month is out for me for work. After March my kids racing season kicks off so I'm busy fixing his late model dirt car or working with the military. It's hard to plan anything after March. It just has to be " if I can make it. ok" I would like to do a coast run anytime. Be nice to see some other Nomads for a change. Jim can you do a coast run?

Bobby, If you're talking about Red Bluff, I've been there once also. That's pretty amazing. The old highway is slowly falling into the canyon.

Bobby you have to give me a little notice lets see you are 2 hrs from me so give me a least 3 hours notice any time you want to ride and I should be able to make it. As far as the coast I an ready to go any time after it warms up a little I lived in Gulfport for a few years and my soon lives in Pensacola. The casinos $60 during the week and around $100 on weekends I was at Tunica wed. trying to win some money for the hill country ride and now I need another $50.00 just to get back where I was http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Sounds good. We occasionally will ride to the coast, play a little and come back in the same day. I haven't been to New Orleans on the bike yet. I would like to but I don't think they have very good parking anywhere. Does anyone know? If people don't want to gamble you can eat and then ride hwy 90 (not a bad ride but has a few lights). They have re-done a lot of it since Katrina. We take Hwy 49 and go through Hattiesburg so we can stop at Hattiesburg Cycles to look around.

Jim,
My son lives at Nesbit so I pass your exit on the way up. Which exit number is yours? Next time I come that way I'll stop by.

Bobby, I'd love a coast ride maye sometime in March. A weekend thing would be great for me. Haven't rode my bike in about 6 weeks now. Either working or just ain't that much fun riding in the cold. Plus, letting my bike cool off a little anyway, I put 12,000 on her my first 8 months. Getting the itch, though, big time. Only been on one ride since I got my Sirius satellite radio installed. Can't wait

We can do that. March may be a good time for it. Feb is bad for me. I wanted to ride to Daytona again but got to work during Bike Week.

You guys could also plan a trip to Northeast Oklahoma. There is some great riding in the "Green Country" area. I'm also hosting a Poker Run in May (date isn't official yet), that is a beautiful ride (approximately 100 miles). It would make for a good weekend trip.

mobandy78, keep us informed on that poker run. I have no plans for May so far. There is the Hill Country ride, the last week of April that I plan on attending.

will do, jesse. I'm trying to get the date figured out and work around other events that are scheduled around this area. As soon as I set a date, I'll post a new thread inviting everyone.

If the poker run happens on my days off, I will consider making it up to OK. I've scheduled all of my vacation for the Hill Country ride, SC Rally, Talimena ride in October, and Christmas week. All 4 were 48 hr weeks so that burned up all but 8 hours of vacation. Anything else happening will have to fall on my days off for me to be able to make it.
