For starters, a windshield bag.
Where do you put the garage door remote etc?
Best 30-60 bucks you can spend on your Nomad.

Garage door opener fits nicely clipped to the cables running along the handle bars behind the windshield. Couldn't live without my gel insert sheepskin pad for my seat.

The fairing, and stereo.
The Edmonds oversize lowers. Best $65.00 (delivered) I ever spent. ZERO bufetting at 70 and above. And that's with the windshield at the lowest setting. (I like lookin' OVER it. LOL)

all the goodies I have added I love them all, but if I had to pick, the back rest and grips would have to stay.

My lowers, Kuryakyn grips, Kuryakyn highway pegs, Phat risers II, studded Mustang seat WBR, Stebel air horn. Windshield bag, Chatterbox intercom/radio, bag liners, luggage rack.
I want it all. Not giving any of it up so don't ask me to choose. In fact I want more.

Being that I haven't yet actually ridden my Nomad, I can only draw from previous experience. Bruce's top ten countdown of what he couldn't do without on a bike; 10 stick-on digital clock (mounted in steering head) 9 luggage rack 8 windshield bag 7 passenger backrest(when mama's not happy nobody's happy) 6 highway pegs 5 saddlebags 4 cupholder 3 Crampbuster (plastic throttle thingy) 2 Mustang seat, and the number 1 accessory add-on is: (music please Paul) driver's backrest.

My first thought was my drivers back rest, but I could go back to wearing my back brace so I guess it would be one of my aftermarket seats, mustang or corbin, with a drivers back rest and my Throttle Rocker to remove the wrist stain.
I would have to say the highway pegs. I haven't done any extended riding yet with the backrest or cruise. I'm hearing good things about those lowers so I might give those a try.

With all the stuff I have done, Risers has to be the best. Ah-hem, someday I might have a backrest, and then I'm sure that might be the best.
I think the risers/backrest/hiway pegs combo is the ticket

I'm sure if "dinkals" would leave Lonnie alone, I'd already have a backrest. ;<)
#1) Flip-a-lever http://www.gadgetjq.com/throttlelock.htm
#2) Highway pegs
#3) Air horn, although this may be #1 if we are really talking about being life saving.

Have you already posted pics?
I would say the risers, driver backrest and Kuryakyn dually highway pegs have been a great comfort and something I would buy again.

Risers, highway pegs, lightbar, V&H Baggers, PCM III, BAK, Stebel air horn and Back Off tail light modulator. Yeah, those are my favorites and no, I can't live without them.

I started the thread with the windshield pouch, just to leave the good ones for others :)
The thing that I really can't live without, over all else, is a drivers backrest. I have a broken vertebrae in my L1 lower back. Long rides would be miserable without it.
Gotta have a drivers backrest.

Dan...I'll get a pic of my install, but here's one from Gadgets site which is where I got the idea. I used a push button switch and a key fob remote that I opened up and soldered two wires on to the switch. I have it velcroed on my inner windshield below my bag so you don't see it.

Ape hangers. Nothing has made the ride more enjoyable than the improved hand position. Next after that I would say the resistor I added to the air temp sensor. This has made it possible to ride the bike with regular unleaded without any pinging or spitting or exhaust popping.

The biggest thing I can't live without? My wife riding behind me. Whether is riding in the Tennessee mountains, the Grand Canyon, or Yellowstone park, she is with me and NEVER complains!

I need to put mine back on, took it off putting risers on this winter and only ride rarely in the winter so I haven't' taken the time to put it on.
I got it off eBay for I think about $40
On my 99's and 05 and 06 I've always re-drilled the holes in the bag so that they would mount lower on the windshield. Just a personal preference.
With the Phat II risers, it was hard to do the clasp with them mounted lower, so I got some velcro and stopped by a shoe repair shop and gave them $5 to sew the velco on.
Now instead of the clasp, I just push the flap shut and let the velcro do its thing.
Just my thoughts on windshield bags. I'll get a pic if I put it on today.

When it comes to the driver's backrest...I would purchase one and install it if I was planning a long journey as a lone ranger rider. But, I'd also remove it with a passenger. My thought is that the driver's backrest somewhat serves the purpose of a "boundary" between a passenger and the driver during a ride. I like the occasional sqeeeeeeze or the ability to lean back into the 'pillows' when I feel the need.
Highway pegs are the most inexpensive must have accessory.

http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif yeeow, you definitely named some places I'd love to ride before I ck. out. Wompus you sure must rack up some mi. and you sure sound like ya know how to pickum. I don't know if I could ride that far (Yellowstone) I'd probably trailer out then ride. For now I've been content with the Appalachians, maybe the Ozarks next yr. ::) http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I just bought a 3 bag set-up off ebay for my windshield. I had a nice big River Road bag, but after I put on the 4" lift Dogbones it won't fit. If anyones interested in it I'll sell it with Nomad mounting bracket $30 including shipping. It's fake leather and has 2 sets of holes in the bag for moving the bracket up or down. The bracket is riveted to the bag.
Here's a pic showing bag mounted and a top view showing the bracket.
