Since it has been raining here for the last 16 hours I have been entertaining myself by map gazing.

I would like to know from those that are planning to attend the 2010 SouthCentral Group Rally if they would prefer doing two days of two one half day rides, about 100 miles each, retruning to Eureka Springs between the rides for lunch or doing more of a long ride, 200 miles, stopping for lunch somewhere on the route?

Or: Doing the two 1/2 days rides retruning to ES for lunch one day and then doing a long ride with lunch on the road the second day.

Also, if anyone has some special roads they would like to ride, or something special they would like to do or see let me know and I will try to work it into the rides. Or I will get you maps etc of where you would like to go and you can do so on your own.

Think of this as your rally/vacation! Get involved and let me know what you would like to do. I want to plan the rides so YOU get the most enjoyment out of them. If you don't want to post on the board send me a PM.

Jim, Are we going to cross into Missouri on any of the rides? I would like to and maybe ride up to Branson just to pass through. I've never been there.

There you go. Idea number 1. Keep it coming. Answer is; if enough wants to go to Branson we can do it. We could even ride up and see an afternoon show, ride the Ducks, go to Silver Dollar City, etc.

Sounds like a plan.

Jim, I like the longer all-day rides and eating somewhere along the way. Jamie

If your going to go near Branson, check out the University of the Ozarks just south of Branson. A great place for lunch. The University has a great history and is a free school for those willing to work. Check it out on line. Also the Great Passion Play is awesome.

Darlene and I had already talked about making the passion play. That probably is after dark correct?

Yes it's in the evening. They have some other things to see there too. Great Bible Museum.
Well worth seeing. Lin and I have been there several times.

I' m with Jamie, longer all-day rides. But, for me, you can leave out the lunch stop.

Lambert's is a good lunch stop for a Friday ride, gets crowded on the weekend. Lots of people like to see the Beaver bridge also.

I think Lambert's would be great for lunch, but I don't know if anyone would want to eat at the cookout on Friday after Lambert's

good Point

Good Point!
Somehow I was thinking of the cookout on Saturday. Don't know where that came from.

Personally I enjoy having a choice of an early or late ride. I can pick an early or late ride depending on how late I party or the weather forecast. We did this in 2007 and it worked out great for me.

Ok Jesse you got me. I guess I don't know where Beaver Bridge is. Do you mean the one on hwy 187 at Holiday Island?

Check out the favorite rides in the new Rider Magazine if anyone gets it. It's around E.S.

Yes, the Bridge on 187, When you cross to the northwest the town is Beaver, I think Holiday Island is across the lake. At least, thats what I've been told?

Well, in addition to riding all the roads I can.....I'd like to ride to Mountain View, AR and go through the Ozark Folk Center. It might take all day to do it tho.

Is it the Ozark "Old Folks" Center ??? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Rand McNally says from Eureka Springs to Mountain View is 121 miles equalling 2 hours and 50 minutes of driving time. If the people that wanted to go was ready at 8:00 am, say 3 hours down there, 4 hours there (that would include 1 hour lunch time) and 3 hours back, they would be back in ES around 6:00 pm. Quite doable!

Yep Mitch.....they give out free dentures... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif I visited the Folk Center a number of years ago and found it to be interesting. Of course, I am a kind of, old guy too. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Some more info for you guys: Lambert's Cafe is in Ozark MO, about 90 miles from ES and they are open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. They do not take credit cards, only cash or checks.

Silver Dollar city is about 60 miles from ES and they are open from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm. An adult day pass is $54.81. A senior day pass ( 62+ ) is $52.66 but there is a group discount with 15 or more people. How much of a discount the website didn't say. You can check out the park on there website at: bransonsilverdollarcity.com

If we just want to go through Branson on a sight seeing tour, I would suggest we get there before noon as hwy 76 through the show area becomes a nightmare on a bike with all the stop and go traffic any later in the day. We could easily incorperate the Branson tour with eating lunch at Lambert's.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't mind seeing Branson on a short tour (walk around downtown and eat some sweets) and eating at Lambert's. I'm not sure about spending that much money to see Silver Dollar City.....but, I'll be with the group and will do whatever the group wants.

On our way back from Branson, we could ride through Bull Shoals and take the ferry across the lake? It's free. Highway 125 between Protem, MO. and Peel, AR... just a suggestion, Watchman.

Also if you wanted to go to Lambert's on Friday we can have the cookout on Saturday then we wouldn't have to have reservations for the Saturday night meal. I f we have enough interest in this I will set up a poll to see what everyone wants to do.

chainsaw
10-26-2009, 04:11 PM
That's a good idea Jim. Then wherever we end up on Saturday we wouldn't have to worry about getting back in time for the reservation.

Sounds like a plan. If I ride on Saturday, it would only be until noon. It will take me most of the afternoon to prepare the gumbo and potato salad. I don't want a bunch of angry, hungry bikers waiting on supper. That could be deadly. http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/> http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

Let's go. All good ideas, but I'm like Trip, I've been to Silver Dollar City and that's too much to spend anywhere. The longer the rides the better. Jamie

Liz and I like crossing the ferry on 125. We have came to and went from ES that way several times. I too thought the price to get into Silver Dollar City has gotten extreme. But I thought I would throw the idea out there just in case anyone really wanted to go. And they still can! If you haven't been there it is really a nice experience.

I would vote to pass on Silver Dollar City, I can do this any time without costing others the $ for that.

watchman
10-28-2009, 09:03 AM
After seeing the prices for Silver Dollar City I think we can safely say we won't be taking a group ride to there. From the comments so far it seems most are wanting to just ride as much as possible.

I love me some Lambert's now..Like the idea of moving the cookout to Saturday, also. But I'll be happy eating potted meat for lunch, just so we ride a lot. Jamie
