My significant other (wife) is trying to work out the easiest way to get on a Nomad with F&S Sissy bar. She is the other side of 50 and the hips not as flexible as they used to be.

NOW NICO NO MOUNTING JOKES>

Tex, please forgive my twisted sense of humor... no disrespect intended. From a biomechanical viewpoint, it presents a problem. The saddle bags preclude using a step stool or pulling up to a short retaining wall to ease mounting. You could help her mount before you get on the bike, but that causes stability problems..... hopefully one of our forum members will have some helpful tips for you.

Trip, GH, BD, BT, lw, SWB..... help??

Oh man I'm loving your sense of humor......... just about crying after that ..... just thought someone might have found easy way on...... seems to me the best i've found is to leave bike leaned and get to step through behind me.

This works for us. We are both in our late 40s and not as limber as we used to be.
I get on the bike first then the wife (from the bikes left side) places her left foot on the floorboard. She then stands up and puts her right leg through. Seems to be the easiest. Kind of like getting on a horse.
Ironically, when ( and I mean WHEN...) we got to the gym, we both work on our stiffness and lack of dexterity. It's not just for 'health' reasons, it is also for riding comfort reasons!!

Be careful out there. Don

Tex, my wife has rheumatoid arthritis so I understand your wife's difficulty. Rflnomad's suggestion is a good one. I will also have my wife get on first so she has more room to get on and get comfortable, then I will slide through. That may help your wife since it gives her more room.

This is what we do also. The wife has lost a lot of her balance do to a brain tumor & loss of vision in one eye. I told her when she steps on the running board do it all in one motion don't stop to adjust do the adjustment of you're foot first. When she does hesitate she has a harder time getting on. She also can't get off until i do which makes it real hard to manuver whe backing in to park.

There is probably a book somewhere titled 101 ways to mount a bike with creative techniques and pictures. I've heared of some people letting their wife mount first on the drivers seat because there is more room and then the wife slides back onto the passenger spot, next the man mounts and with one big heave lifts the bike off the side stand.

I always mount the right side - I figure if I can get my foot over the highest part its all down hill from there. I mount first then I pick the bike up and stabilize it so its level then my wife steps on the right floor board with her right foot and steps through. She's always the last one on and the first one off - That way works good for us.

Hey Jeffm hope all goes well with the wife for many years. I'm glad she's a trooper and rides with you. Mine still has a deathly fear of murdercycles. Really bums me out but I go without her.

Actually Nico means well. He sent me a very helpful picture of how his many women mount his bike first then he gets on it.

I leave the bike on the stand for stability and have wife or dear Daughter step up on their high side floorboard and then step through behind me. They grab a shoulder for balance and have yet to have a problem so far. I'm not so sure about holding the bike up without the stand when a rider mounts, I have visions of the Poseidon adventure with the whole deal rolled keel up! LOL

I never read this post previously but find it interesting. My wife and I are in our early 50's and have no problem getting on and off the bike. After reading the issues some of you are experiencing it reminds me how lucky we are to be as healthy as we are. I hope you folks continue to ride for many years together. I would be bummed out in a huge way if my wife couldn't ride with me. So this is how we mount the beast. Pretty much the same as the others. I mount first, start the bike put it in neutral. My wife holds the back rest and my shoulder, puts her foot on the left board and "stands" straight up then steps through and sits straight down. I never feel the bike move at all.

I do what wolfman does except i mount from the left, works great if the man leans a little forward when the lady mounts up. hey Nico I sh*t a brick with that crane joke, hats off to such a sick pervert.

I mount first, start the bike, in neutral, be sure I have good solid footing, standing up sometimes helps stabilize the bike. Wife steps on the left board and stands straight up, steps through and sits down. she does it so slick I cannot tell that she is even mounting. she helps herself up a bit by one hand on my shoulder and the other on the backrest. The idea is to stand straight up not pull her weight back and forth.

My wife has the same problem. She just hit 70. There is a solution on Gadget Fix It website. I'm in the process of doing it now. You make brackets that raise the passenger floorboards.
Hense she doesn't have to swing her leg as high to get on. Gettin old ain't for sissys!!!!!!

Lets see..
1. wife puts left foot on left floorboard
2. wife puts right hand upside the leftside of my head for smartass comment on her making us late once again.
3. wife roundhouse kicks her right foot over backrest (actually aiming for my head) and sits butt down and almost topples us.
4. wife smacks me again for good measure and for any future comments I'm sure to make during the day while telling me how lucky I should feel that she's riding with me and my loser friends.

Just kidding...

I always mount from the right side 1st then the wife from the left side but that became a bore so bought her a bike as well and she just follows along behind or lately in front she is becoming a lot more game now she is on her full licence and on a bigger bike(750 Shadow).
